So why only 3 stars for a hotel that has an average of 4-5 Buckle up, it’s going to be a long one :)
A tale of 2 visits…..
We couldn’t wait to stay at Koutouloufari Village Holiday Club again. We’ve been holidaying on the island for years and this hotel was the very 1st memory of this fantastic island. After traveling most of the island over the last decade, we decided to head back to where it all began, KVHC and the magical place that is Koutouloufari village. On arrival we were greeted by the manager but unfortunately our room was not quite ready. No problem, So we stored our bags and wandered around for an hour or two. Had a beer (as you do) and headed back to the hotel. Room now ready. The manager carried our bags to our apartment. (38) hand luggage only. The room/apartment was a good size and had all the amenities you would expect on a self catering holiday. (Not that I was cooking)Nicely decorated, small but functional bathroom with shower over bath. The downside of the room. We were the last apartment on the end of a walkway, next to us, to the back of us and front of us were building works. Under us was the plant room and the cleaners supply room) The noise was constant. We were woken twice around 3 & 4 am by the sound of a water tank filling in the middle of the night, right under us. We informed the manager but he just told us if it happens again to call the maintenance guy (at 3am!) They didn’t check on us again after that, so that was disappointing, we were staying for 14 nights! Also trying to get a siesta or just relax in the apartment during the hot weather was almost impossible because of the building works going on around us. Bagging, drilling and load voices. Even by the pool, (which has been remodelled) there was sawing, banging and noise distractions from men building fences and maintenance. There was a flower pot just outside our bedroom doors, this was being used by the various wild cats as a toilet (I’m an animal lover) I tried everything to stop them using it, citronella, lemon and even detergent, but nothing worked. So I removed it away from our apartment. It’s probably still there at the bottom of the steps! We only had one drink by the pool. We ordered two white wines at a cost of €5 each, when they arrived, they were in two different sized glasses. One big one small but they weren’t filled the same either, the smaller glass had less wine than the larger glass! 🤷🏻♀️ So we didn’t bother again. All these things added up to not a great stay in the hotel but not the village it self. Spoiled our memories of our very 1st trip to this...
Read moreWe stayed here for 1 week in May 2024 and had an amazing time. Arriving late at night we easily found our key and welcome pack at reception as promised. We made our way through the beautiful gardens and passed the pool area to our room (#36) which was an impressive size, with our own private terrace (which turned out to be one of the biggest that the hotel has to offer) which had amazing sea views. The room itself was very well equipped with everything that you would need to enjoy a self catering holiday. The pool area is very well laid out and is a great location to relax, take a dip, have some lunch or a drink and while away the day. This is not your typical hotel pool area. It is quiet and relaxing, a great place to chat and get to know your fellow guests. Travelling out of season meant that we never had trouble getting a day bed or sun lounger at all during our stay. On Wednesday evenings friends of the hotel manager come to the lounge bar and play traditional songs which was even more enjoyable with a couple of hand crafted cocktails. All of the staff were incredible, from the owners and managers down to the cleaners and waiters nothing was ever too much to ask. Great sources for local knowledge and advice. A word of warning however, this hotel would not be suitable for people with severe mobility issues as due to the sprawling layout of the hotel, there are a lot of stairs to navigate to get between the different areas. Not a problem for us, but it definitely would be if you find stairs and walking difficult. The location was perfect, great selection of local shops, restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. The village is a great blend of quiet and relaxed whilst still offering everything you need on your holiday. We ate in a different restaurant every night and never had a bad meal, in fact the hardest choice we had everyday was where were going to eat that night. The busy town of Hersonissos is a short walk away down the hill (we recommend a cab back up as the hill is quite steep in places) for those looking for a bit more hustle and bustle. Here you will find lively sea view bars and restaurants, plenty of shops and lively nightlife. Staying in Koutouloufari gave us the perfect blend of both worlds. We will definitely be coming back to stay here again and can 100% recommend it to couples or...
Read moreBooked this hotel after reading the reviews and because we don’t like high rise hotels On arrival by taxi from the airport I was quite worried. We pulled up in the Main Street which was very busy and noisy, it was Saturday night When we entered the door into the reception area I couldn’t believe how peaceful it was you couldn’t hear a thing It was late when we arrived so the girl from behind the bar showed us to our room as reception closes at 10pm she was very friendly and helpful The rooms are very spacious and clean and I only have one gripe and that is the room we stayed in had the bedroom upstairs yet the bathroom was downstairs and very steep stairs, quite scary when you have to get up during the night. We paid for an extra room on our last day as we had a late flight and that room, although not in as nice a position everything was on one floor Breakfast was very good and lots of it, they will always cook some eggs if you ask, omelette or scrambled or boiled The young girl was lovely who served the breakfast very friendly as are all the staff The pool area is really lovely, there were always beds available though some people put their towels on when they go for breakfast My suitcase did not arrive until four days after we arrived which caused me a lot of stress but the lady on the reception was absolutely brilliant she made phone calls and went on line to try to locate my case. I think her name was Eni I can’t thank her enough she really kept my spirits up when I was thinking I would never see my case again Outside the hotel were lots of bars and restaurants serving delicious food and cocktails we never had a bad meal during our stay All in all we had an amazing stay in a little piece of paradise with the most wonderful friiendly and helpful staff Just need to get your WiFi sorted as it kept logging us out Thank...
