Basilico — Restaurant in Municipality of Eastern Samos

The location of this place is undeniably beautiful, with an amazing view...but don’t be fooled. What you won’t find here is the warm and welcoming Greek hospitality you normally get from Greek-owned businesses.

Instead, the experience was ruined by the owner, a rude French woman who treated us terribly. When we simply asked to check the bill, which turned out to be incorrect—she didn’t apologize. Instead, she snapped at us, saying “we don't steal from tourists here, so what's your problem?” Excuse me? She overcharged us and somehow we were the problem?

To make things worse:

The service is painfully slow.

They don’t accept credit cards (and may even lie, saying the machine is broken).

The staff can be outright rude, even cursing at you in French. (Unluckily for them, my partner and I also speak French, so we understood every unpleasant comment—and answered back.)

Overall, the view is nice, but the treatment and service are unacceptable. I cannot recommend this...

We waited around 1 hour for the orders to be served. We were not in a rush and it could be ok if the food taste fine but grilled octopus was not cooked well. It was nearly raw after waiting 1 hour. Grilled sardines was ok. We asked pizza but they said they do not serve pizza everyday (in an italian Restaurant). Do not try to pay with credit card and be sure if you have enough cash with you as the machine is broken. If you ask for the check you may not get any response and if you try to make yourself heard while asking second time they may give a little unkind response while not looking at your face "I heard you!". very bad service. we wanted to pay with apple pay as many people do. we had no cash with us because that had just run out, but the old woman standing there (60 years) said that the pin device was broken and that we had to go to kokkari to get cash money from the atm and come back to pay with cash. back then we thought it was weird because you don't let your customers walk all the way back and forth. we also didn't have a debit card with us and we weren't from the area. so when we said this she went all crazy and we were able to pin as expected. so don't fall for those excuses because you can always pin anywhere, of course.
