Honestly just a btec 2 brothers which is located in the center of matala, while 2 friends is hiding in a corner of the town preying on unsuspecting tourists who are too polite to say anything. We decided to stop by for lunch and the waiter/waitresses seemed nice enough but as i sat down i noticed there's an ATM sitting auspiciously in the corner, how strange for an ATM to be a part of a restaurant, but we'll come back to why that's important in a second. Judging by the pictures on the menu associated with each item we ordered a pork schnitzel and a "special" omelette, both of which showed a dazzling display of greenery as garnish and potato wedges on the side of the schnitzel... What we received looked like a sad attempt to recreate the memory of such an item as if you had it on holiday as a starving 11 year old while your parents were together and your dad wasn't a cheating alcoholic... Anyway, the schnitzel was essential a hard slab of barely thawed meat that was contorted in such a way that it looked like its been drooping over the side of the freezer before they pulled it out and chucked it into a microwave, with no associated greens, and boring stale fries rather than what was shown. The omelette on the other hand was actually nice, but I assume that you can't freeze and thaw out an omelette so it was probably fresh, but still missing all the greens and tomatoes as shown on the picture, minus points though for the description being very thorough with the ingredients but the cook decided to throw feta cheese in there to surprise me as if it's my 17th birthday and I find my father with another woman. If I wantes feta I would have ordered something that has feta in the description.
Finally, the bit that really ticked me off was that when I asked to pay the waiter gave me the receipt and then just ran off without saying anything, strange, but ok I'll go and pay up by the bar. This is the part that makes the ATM I noticed relevant. The manager I presume, as I finally got her attention, tells me I should have been told as I came in that their card machine is broken, but I can pay cash or revolut her or check or whatever, anyway the gears start turning in my head, turns out, according to other reviews that their card machine seems to have been broken the entire week. So I ask how I can revolut if the card machine is broken and the woman just goes on about how she doesn't get commission and I don't get commission or something, I was honestly confused because that's not what I asked.
Anyway so I just take cash out of the dodgy ATM, (that charges me 5 euro transaction fee!!!) and go to pay, nicely enough the woman offers to give me the difference out of the till which to bre frank I appreciate so that's why I'm not rating it 1* but the food was a disappointment so 3*.
Just be wary of the lack of communication about the "broken" card machine in such a...
Read moreThe service was nice, everyone was eager to help and the language barrier IS NOT an issue. Obviously the waiters aren't speaking english fluently, however their language skills are enough to get you comfortably served. The waiting time altogether was surprisingly quick, cold dish appetizers were served in a matter of minutes. The main dishes were taking a little bit longer, but considering the average preparation time, all the main dishes were served particularly swiftly. The food was fresh and high quality, especially the seafood was fresh. Unfortunately, the grilled octopus was tough to bite, it was difficult to cut, and the whole eating experience slightly dropped its quality. However, other dishes were tasty and prepared correctly with certain care, which really enhanced the feeling of being right at the seashore. All of the staff, mostly the waiters, were friendly and polite. Even when presented with the issue of “hard to eat” octopus, they handled the criticism with ease. The serving staff is very tempered and they are willing to take more time and patience while dealing with minor language difficulties. They also served small dishes and desserts without demanding any additional fee. It's also worth mentioning the scenery and the views. All outdoor tables are in close proximity to the sea. The scenery includes great views of the bay and the famous “Hippie Mountain”, which is located right across the lagoon. The “Hippie Mountain” is basically the main touristic attraction located in the town, and the restaurant itself has perfect view directly on the mountain. It really boosts the experience of dining in this restaurant. I really enjoyed the experience the restaurant has...
Read moreIf you must come and only order drinks and wine. DO NOT ORDER MEALS. It’s really not worth it. We had appetizer baked feta and as mains grilled squid and shrimp linguine. Linguines were very plain almost no taste at all. As if they forgot to put in the sauce. Shrimps were fine, but really not worh it as it were 15€ and there was only 4 shrimps. Squid was very gummy like. Service was terrible. It took them way too long to even notice us in the begining and also it took them unnecarily way took long to bring out the ordered water and wine. After apetizers they manually took the used forks out of the used plates and put them on the table and let us use it for the later arrived main dishes. If you want to serve whole shrimps to the gueast you should definitely get them plate for the remains, we had to improvise in order to cater this. Also please bring enough tisues to the table. There were only 2 tissues brought to us which we used after appetizer and after that we had no tissues to yous with the main dishes. Also during the entire lunch after the order was done the server didn’t ask once if we needed anything or if everything was allright. They did give us a cake after meals which was the only thing we can give them a bonus points. My partner...
