5 stars for the ambience, 3 stars for the food, 1 star for the staff’s behavior. I have been at this vegan cafe/restaurant numerous times and although it’s really nice to sit and even work from, the staff is rude and incompetent.
In our last (and final) visit today, my father asked the young server (tall skinny bearded guy) what ingredients they use for something they call “egg” on the menu (we asked since it’s obviously not a real egg given that this is a vegan restaurant) but the menu doesn’t explain what it is/list the ingredients. His tone was immediately ironic and his response was “I can’t tell you the ingredients this is a secret of the business”. I explain that I am not asking for the recipe but to know what I’m going to eat. He goes “let me know if you have any allergies and I will tell you if the dish has that ingredient or not, I will not tell you the exact ingredients”. We were so put off by his attitude and behavior that he didn’t want to hear more or even try this dish but I was very annoyed and told him that this is ridiculous and that it’s unheard of to not inform the customers (who are the ones paying and will consume it!!!) what ingredients are in a dish. At the end he said the main ingredients but said there are more. Ridiculous behavior by someone who is clearly not suitable for the hospitality space.
I also ordered a Corona beer. 15mins later I ask where is the beer and a few more minutes later the waiter returns with a different brand of beer open and ready to be served. I explain that I ordered a Corona and the server goes “We don’t actually have a Corona so I brought you this because we don’t have many other choices anyway”. He didn’t even inform us that they don’t have a Corona or ask if it’s ok to bring another beer! Realizing I have to do with incompetent people I decided not to say anything further but we will not be back anytime soon.
It’s a shame for some clueless people to destroy the reputation of this otherwise beautiful...
Read moreWe aren’t vegan, yet this is one of our favorite restaurants in Greece—it’s simply good food. An upscale yet casual indoor/outdoor dining experience in a trendy, open space with natural woods, gorgeous fabrics, assorted seating styles, and patterns galore with perfect lighting—cozy yet elevated, this is modern vegan fine dining at its best (also ♿️ ✅). Everything is gluten free (they also don’t use refined sugars). Reservations recommended. English menu available.
🍷 💶 ♿️ 🚘 Decent wine list from all Greek vineyards (€11-33/bottle, no glasses). Sadly, they don’t have a bubbly option and don’t offer a corkage fee for BYO. Service is very slow—order 1 or even 2 bottles of wine at the start of the meal or you may never get another chance 😅. Expensive for vegan food, but good value for the atmosphere, ingredient quality, and presentation. Lunch and dinner menu/prices are the same. Outdoor dining has only one heat source but very comfy seating. Wheelchair accessible. Free street parking all around (including directly in front on both sides of the street).
🍴WHAT TO ORDER: ✅ Cashew cream with pink peppercorn & basil pesto stuffed mushrooms are divine (€10 for 2 of each flavor and you can ask for 4 of one flavor instead, but both are great)—it’s the best cashew cream I’ve ever tried. ✅ All of the seed “sandwiches” are amazing—best bread alternative I’ve tasted worldwide. Avocado seed bread (€13) is our personal fave (see photo)—it’s very filling. ✅ Gazpacho—it’s Instagram worthy looks are matched by the taste. ✅ Cinnamon cookie and coconut cookie are great—take two to go (fair warning: they’ve got a strong stevia after taste). ✅ Lemon “cheese” cake is really good (for a vegan dessert). ✅ Tiramisu (honestly wouldn’t have guessed it was vegan—simply delicious).
Pasta is good but not worth it, snickers dessert is good. Skip the rose & cinnamon pudding—it looks gorgeous but...
Read moreAfter my first visit, I already knew this place was something special. This time, I brought along three non-vegan friends, curious to see their reactions. We sampled a wider variety of dishes, and once again, the food blew us away. Every plate is crafted with high-quality ingredients and full of flavour — fresh, inventive, and deeply satisfying.
Everything we tried was exceptional. What’s even more impressive is that my non-vegan friends were completely won over. They left with a new appreciation for vegan cuisine — not just that it can be good, but that it can be truly amazing.
The service is warm, welcoming, and always with a smile, and the ambiance is just as beautiful and serene as I remembered. The decor and vibe elevate the entire experience — it’s not just a meal, it’s a moment of calm and delight in the day.
Yi Athens is more than worth the trip. It's a place that changes perspectives and leaves you nourished in...
