5 stars for the ambience, 3 stars for the food, 1 star for the staffās behavior. I have been at this vegan cafe/restaurant numerous times and although itās really nice to sit and even work from, the staff is rude and incompetent.
In our last (and final) visit today, my father asked the young server (tall skinny bearded guy) what ingredients they use for something they call āeggā on the menu (we asked since itās obviously not a real egg given that this is a vegan restaurant) but the menu doesnāt explain what it is/list the ingredients. His tone was immediately ironic and his response was āI canāt tell you the ingredients this is a secret of the businessā. I explain that I am not asking for the recipe but to know what Iām going to eat. He goes ālet me know if you have any allergies and I will tell you if the dish has that ingredient or not, I will not tell you the exact ingredientsā. We were so put off by his attitude and behavior that he didnāt want to hear more or even try this dish but I was very annoyed and told him that this is ridiculous and that itās unheard of to not inform the customers (who are the ones paying and will consume it!!!) what ingredients are in a dish. At the end he said the main ingredients but said there are more. Ridiculous behavior by someone who is clearly not suitable for the hospitality space.
I also ordered a Corona beer. 15mins later I ask where is the beer and a few more minutes later the waiter returns with a different brand of beer open and ready to be served. I explain that I ordered a Corona and the server goes āWe donāt actually have a Corona so I brought you this because we donāt have many other choices anywayā. He didnāt even inform us that they donāt have a Corona or ask if itās ok to bring another beer! Realizing I have to do with incompetent people I decided not to say anything further but we will not be back anytime soon.
Itās a shame for some clueless people to destroy the reputation of this otherwise beautiful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe arenāt vegan, yet this is one of our favorite restaurants in Greeceāitās simply good food. An upscale yet casual indoor/outdoor dining experience in a trendy, open space with natural woods, gorgeous fabrics, assorted seating styles, and patterns galore with perfect lightingācozy yet elevated, this is modern vegan fine dining at its best (also āæļø ā ). Everything is gluten free (they also donāt use refined sugars). Reservations recommended. English menu available.
š· š¶ āæļø š Decent wine list from all Greek vineyards (ā¬11-33/bottle, no glasses). Sadly, they donāt have a bubbly option and donāt offer a corkage fee for BYO. Service is very slowāorder 1 or even 2 bottles of wine at the start of the meal or you may never get another chance š . Expensive for vegan food, but good value for the atmosphere, ingredient quality, and presentation. Lunch and dinner menu/prices are the same. Outdoor dining has only one heat source but very comfy seating. Wheelchair accessible. Free street parking all around (including directly in front on both sides of the street).
š“WHAT TO ORDER: ā Cashew cream with pink peppercorn & basil pesto stuffed mushrooms are divine (ā¬10 for 2 of each flavor and you can ask for 4 of one flavor instead, but both are great)āitās the best cashew cream Iāve ever tried. ā All of the seed āsandwichesā are amazingābest bread alternative Iāve tasted worldwide. Avocado seed bread (ā¬13) is our personal fave (see photo)āitās very filling. ā Gazpachoāitās Instagram worthy looks are matched by the taste. ā Cinnamon cookie and coconut cookie are greatātake two to go (fair warning: theyāve got a strong stevia after taste). ā Lemon ācheeseā cake is really good (for a vegan dessert). ā Tiramisu (honestly wouldnāt have guessed it was veganāsimply delicious).
Pasta is good but not worth it, snickers dessert is good. Skip the rose & cinnamon puddingāit looks gorgeous but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter my first visit, I already knew this place was something special. This time, I brought along three non-vegan friends, curious to see their reactions. We sampled a wider variety of dishes, and once again, the food blew us away. Every plate is crafted with high-quality ingredients and full of flavour ā fresh, inventive, and deeply satisfying.
Everything we tried was exceptional. Whatās even more impressive is that my non-vegan friends were completely won over. They left with a new appreciation for vegan cuisine ā not just that it can be good, but that it can be truly amazing.
The service is warm, welcoming, and always with a smile, and the ambiance is just as beautiful and serene as I remembered. The decor and vibe elevate the entire experience ā itās not just a meal, itās a moment of calm and delight in the day.
Yi Athens is more than worth the trip. It's a place that changes perspectives and leaves you nourished in...
