During our holiday, we stumbled upon a delightful family-owned restaurant that quickly became one of the highlights of our trip. Nestled in a charming corner, this gem of a restaurant welcomes you in with a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel like part of their family. The interior is tastefully decorated in a traditional Cretan style, adding to its authentic charm and creating a cozy dining experience.
From the moment we stepped inside, we had a good feeling about the place—and we were absolutely right. We found ourselves returning multiple times, and each visit confirmed the same truth: the food here is simply amazing.
As a vegetarian, I can only speak for the vegetarian dishes, but they were exceptional. The tzatziki was a creamy, garlicky delight—one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The salads were vibrant, fresh, and bursting with flavor, while the courgette balls were nothing short of perfection, a must-try for anyone visiting.
My girlfriend, a meat-eater, was equally impressed with the variety and quality of the meat dishes. She couldn’t stop raving about them, and it’s clear that this restaurant excels across the board when it comes to its menu.
To top it off, the restaurant is very reasonably priced, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy authentic, homemade Cretan cuisine. Whether you're a vegetarian or a meat lover, this spot is highly recommended for anyone wanting to savor some scrumptious, home-cooked food with a warm,...
Read moreI popped into Kouros Tavern as it was very close to my hotel, and my taxi transfer driver told me he'd heard good reports about Kouros Tavern. The staff were very welcoming. On my first visit, I ordered a half litre bottle of Cretan Retsina and Pork Souvlaki. The Retsina was nicely chilled and was one of the best I tried during my stay in Koutsounari. The Pork Souvlaki was perfectly cooked and very flavoursome. The owners bought me a nice complimentary pudding of Yoghurt with fresh berries. On my second visit, the owner recommended one of the daily specials a nice chunk of lamb cooked fresh on the spit outside the restaurant. To go with it, I ordered a chilled bottle of Greek EZA Pilsener. The lamb arrived in a big chunk with homemade. potato wedges. The lamb was so soft and some of the best I've tasted, amazing taste. The owner rounded the evening off by bringing me a small Flask of his homemade Raki....

Food and drinks are exceptionally priced, surprisingly cheap but with no compromise on quality, everything ordered was made and served with love! Family run restaurant this place is definitely family friendly and has an enclosed children’s playground tucked to the side of the restaurant to keep active children safely occupied whilst parents enjoy some respite! Delicious and varied menu, with lots of different dishes to choose from, and many ice cream flavours for dessert. Shared complimentary shots with the owner after the meal which was a really lovely touch! Made to feel very welcome from the start to the finish thank you Taverna Kouros!
