La Sera Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Ierapetra

I'm quite unsure what this place is trying to be. As you can see from the menu photo, half of it features traditional Greek cuisine, while the other half offers a kind of modern fusion. Personally, I find it hard to understand why someone would want to eat spring rolls, tuna tartar or frozen calamari and shrimp (marked with a * on the menu to indicate they’re frozen) in a small village in southern Crete. Still, the owner seems to be doing a good job catering to the preferences of a tourist clientele. We ordered only traditional dishes, which were well prepared and made with quality ingredients. For that reason, it would be unfair to give less than four stars. However, I imagine my rating would have been lower had I chosen from the non-traditional side of the menu. A decent option if...

We tried a salad and the mix grill for two people and I have to say I was positively surprised how well grilled was the meat. Es war ein wahres Fest. Man sitzt sehr angenehm im La Sera, mitten im Centrum und doch ruhig. Mit Milos und Aldo stehen zwei ausgebildete Köche am Herd und das schmeckt man. Der Service liegt in den Händen von Eri, einem Sommelier der Extraklasse, der sich freundlich und unaufgeregt um seine Gäste kümmert. Was aus der Küche kommt ist weg vom Mainstream der Touristenküche, auf guter Qualität aufgebaut und auch fürs Auge präsentiert. Wir empfehlen die Salate als Einstieg und dann das was an frischen Fischen angeboten wird. Eri hat mehr als nur den trinkbaren Hauswein im Angebot und seinen Empfehlungen quer durch die Anbaugebiete Griechenlands kann man blind vertrauen. Und wie immer sind es die Kleinigkeiten die den Unterschied machen…Mineralwasser in Glas- und nicht in Plastikflachen, warmes Pitabrot das lecker schmeckt und auch eine saubere Toilette.
