Passing by kalamata, driving from Methoni to Athens. On the way to kalamata we were trying to find a good quality coffee on google maps in advance, but failed. Because some places had 5 star review but only one or a very few reviews. Passing by kalamata by car we saw the "holy mug " from the window of the car. Good location to be noticed. But no view. Just behind the corner there are multiple quantity of bars, cafe's and restaurants with the sea view but we wanted a GOOD quiet of coffee.
Inside we found la MARZOCCO coffee machine which is one of the best coffee machines in the world. Coffee beans from "SAMBA" athenian coffee roasters average to good quality.
we ordered the coffee and took a table outside. There were 4 tables outside, only one was free, so we occupied it. As we found out the moment we were leaving the caffe ~ THE TABLE NEXT OURS WAS OCCUPIED BY THE WAITRESS 9F THE CAFE, young woman smoking all the time on us. Sitting in the cloud of tobacco smoke has spoiled all the good impression. We did not complain,.because we though a woman was a customer like us(she was not wearing any specific clothes or sign to distinguish her as a waitress ) and we know that smoking outside is.not forbidden in Greece. But when we stood up ,leaving, she stood up.to clean our table.
customer service in Greece is generally very underdeveloped. I wonder, investing so much effort in horeca business, why not to train the stuff basic customer service...

Read moreThis place is a little gem. A beautiful coffee shop situated in a slightly strange location near the port of Kalamata, but it is well worth the visit as the atmosphere and staff are top notch.
The coffee here is exceptional. You have a choice of their "standard" coffee (which is excellent), and also speciality varieties that they stock too. On top of all that, the owner and staff clearly love their coffee as they can recommend a specific coffee variety depending on what you are drinking (for example espresso or filter). They also know how to nail a cup of coffee, no over-bitter nastiness here.
The choice of preparation options is also extensive. All the usual espresso stuff (cappuccino, latte, flat white etc.), but also cold brew, traditional Greek coffee, and plenty of filter options like V60, Chemex, Aeropress...and others I can't remember!. There is also a good selection of tea if that's your thing.
All in all, coffee nirvana!
As for the food, well, there is a good variety of breakfast stuff, sandwiches, fresh cakes, pancakes and sweets...but most importantly it is all really tasty. It's one of those places where you look through the menu, and see food on the counter, and you are slightly disappointed you can't try everything. Portions are generous too (especially the fluffy pancakes. Enormous!).
You won't find another coffee shop like this in Kalamata,...
