We decided to try this restaurant as it was within walking distance of our Airbnb. We had had coffee here a couple mornings prior. It was the oddest dining experience I’ve had. We were seated when we arrived by the owner. Our waiter then came and asked us to get up and walk to the kitchen to choose our meal, somewhat cafeteria style. The cooks stared at us while we chose, we were also offered grilled meat or fish. No menu, no prices. I ordered the sea bass. When the food arrived, my first bite was very slimy and tasted spoiled. I spit it out. The waiter never came to check on us after the food was served. I placed the smelly fish on the table next to us. My husband and I shared the salad and his meal, the moussaka, which was adequate. We were sitting outside, so neighborhood cats eventually came up to the table and tried to jump up to eat the fish. I got up and brought it to the bar. I told the waiter the fish was undercooked and bad. He brought the owner, who offered to cook the fish further, I declined. We asked for the check, it arrived with two bite size pieces of halva, which was good. We noticed the cost of the fish had not been removed. I asked the waiter to remove it, he called the owner, Michali over, who insisted the fish was cooked perfectly, tasted great and if they cooked it any further it would have been dry. He refused to remove the cost of the fish from the bill. 22,00 Euro, (more than was we were charged for Sea Bass at the JW Marriott restaurant in Crete). When I pressed for him to remove the charge, he became aggressive. His tone made me feel unsafe, so I decided it was in my best interest to stop disputing. That night I got very sick to my stomach. Not sure if it was the single bite of the fish I spit out or the moussaka, but I’m assuming not the salad. I would never dine here again due to the low quality food and service. I took a photo of the establishment on our way out the...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this place for first dinner in Crete! I wanna give a huge shout out to the staff for being so welcoming. We walked in and were showed around the different meat, seafood, and Greek dishes available. It was clear that everything was fresh and clean. The meal: To start, we were given warm toasted bread with a tomato salsa that paired well with the olive oil. We tried the zucchini balls which were not too oily and had great flavor. Try the tomato salsa with it too! We felt meaty and ordered the mixed grill for 2 which was generously portioned and some! To top it off, we were served some fruit and raki at the end.
A worthwhile experience that showed great Greek hospitality...
Read moreSimply incredible restaurant (taverna) with a big variety of food choices which are beyond delicious. The personnel are super friendly and very helpful in making you choose the right thing for you. The barman also prepares high quality cocktails that we enjoyed after having our dinner there. The place is situated right next to the sea, so you can take a swim just as easily. First time I've tried svakianopita here and it was amazing. Right next to the restaurant there is a camping zone where you can rent a room or hire a spot for your vehicle, so it's the perfect place if you're traveling by car or van to enjoy an authentic...
