★★★☆☆ – Friendly vibe, average food, best for the garlic bread
Nostros Restaurant on Kos offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere thanks to its incredibly kind and friendly staff. While the service itself was fairly standard, the genuine hospitality of the people working there really stood out and earns them an extra star.
As for the food, it was a bit hit and miss. The fish mix plate was small and underwhelming – the fish tasted okay, but there wasn’t much to get excited about. The pasta dish was fine but lacked depth and seasoning. The chicken gyros, unfortunately, was overly salty and tough to get through. The milkshake also didn’t impress – thin and a bit bland.
That said, the garlic bread was by far the best thing we had. Fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly toasted – we tried both the classic and the cheese version, and they were both delicious. If you do visit, definitely order the garlic bread!
The setting is decent, but we were seated right next to a roundabout, which takes away from the overall charm – especially when other nearby restaurants offer beautiful views of the sea, mountains, and sunset. The music and ambiance were okay but nothing memorable.
As a kind gesture, the staff offered us a complimentary dessert and even a small discount of around €5 on the bill due to our feedback – though we chose to pay the full amount out of respect for their hospitality. That kind of thoughtfulness really says a lot about the people running the place.
Overall, Nostros is a friendly spot with a great team and cozy atmosphere. While the food didn’t fully impress, the service and kindness made a difference – and the garlic bread alone is worth a stop.
Overall: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Food: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Service: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Ambience:...
Read moreWe decided to eat here as was collection point for our Jet 2 transfer. We ordered our food ...nothing exacting, a moussaka and a kleftiko....this was at 6.40pm.....still, no food at 7pm,7.20pm, we asked waitress if our food would be much later, she gave us a blank stare and shrugged, the waiter then looked a mixture of puzzled and flustered...saying it would be 10 mins, this said after checking with kitchen..we had strong suspicion our order was still in his pocket. Both him and the waitress seemed to dodge coming near our table and avoided any eye contact...not the normal friendly Greek service we are used to. We eventually received our meal at 7.45pm.... we know that Greece is laid back and always expect a wait but over an hour.!!...perhaps it was due to our waiter being more concerned about taxis and running about booking them or chatting to drivers or fact he has forgotten the order...he did say it was his first mistake all day and muttered a sorry. But this whole incident put us off ever going again as we are frequent visitors to Greece. Perhaps even offering us some bread or nibbles while we waited would have softened the blow but nothing....very very...
Read moreI really like Nostos, I come here many times a year, living just 10 minutes walk away, to enjoy the relative calm and truly unpretentious, genuine atmosphere.
One of the longer established tavernas here, Nostos is also quite large. There are three seating areas: at the front a pebbled terrace, excellent for a sunny breakfast in summer, extends to a roofed area protecting customers from the sun. Roll down screens add protection in the cooler months. Next to the kitchen is a tiled area with nine or ten tables where locals gather in the winter.
The kitchen is well staffed with two chefs and assistants. Today there are two waiters making sure food is delivered promptly. The menu is extensive and includes traditional Greek dishes as well as meat and fish on Adoni's charcoal.
I have enjoyed more than 250 dinners here, and have never been disappointed. Others provide food critique and photos, so I will...
