So, on our first night in Kos, we set out on the noble quest for food and drink. Picture us as hobbits wandering into Mordor, except instead of orcs we were ambushed by enthusiastic restaurant reps promising the best meal of our lives. After dodging more offers than a timeshare presentation, we surrendered to Skala.
They whisked us up to the rooftop, where the view of the sea was so stunning I briefly forgot I was hungry. Service was a little slow, but to be fair our waiter was basically starring in his own one-man show, running around serving everyone like Usain Bolt with a tray. When he finally reached us, I spotted Erdinger on the menu—so naturally, I made the only correct life choice.
The wife and I went for the Meze, as did two of our brave companions, while the final couple chose the seafood platter—aka Poseidon’s crime scene. Highlights of the Meze included a beetroot and garlic dip so good I briefly considered proposing to it. As for the platter, I was offered a piece of octopus, which was surprisingly tasty. (Although, eating something with that many legs feels a bit like revenge.)
Our waiter remained cheerful throughout, and before letting us pay he brought us a complimentary digestive drink. Either it helps digestion, or it was his way of saying, “Thanks for waiting 45 minutes for bread.” Prices were reasonable, the vibe was friendly, and overall I’d highly recommend it—just don’t make eye contact with the seafood platter unless you’re ready...
Read moreWhat a lovely evening spent at Skala. Initially I felt that my tiny table for one was an afterthought as it was positioned very close to another table which felt awkward, but the friendliness and good nature of the entire team soon made me feel comfortable and valued as a customer. The atmosphere was really good. The food was delicious, although my main course was served a little too quickly after my starter for me to really enjoy my main, which also meant I had no room for dessert. Prawn Saganaki to start was so tasty, followed by Athana Kebab which was delightfully spicy with a nice fresh, cooling salad and fresh, hot chips. I enjoyed a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The ABBA girls soon had everyone singing and dancing. Lisa’s 8yr old daughter Eleni sang and danced with them towards the end of the evening and she was great - a little star in the making. There aren’t many restaurants that look after solo travellers as well as I was looked after, so thank you Skala. I’ll definitely return next time...

Absolutely loved our experience at this family-run Greek restaurant. The food was nothing short of delicious — every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. There's an impressively wide selection on the menu, making it easy to find something for everyone.
For a romantic dinner, the rooftop setting overlooking the harbour is ideal. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a meal, especially at sunset. If you fancy a jolly sing along evening then I highly recommend the ABBA night on Fridays. It brings so many laughs and is a lovely atmosphere.
The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive — you can tell they take pride in what they do. It’s clearly a labor of love, and that comes through in both the food and the service.
We can’t wait to return to see Kosta and family again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Greek cuisine in a...
