★★★½☆ – Tasty food, but let down by atmosphere and small details
We had dinner at Peperone Pizza & Pasta on Kos, and while the food was generally satisfying, a few things kept the experience from being truly enjoyable.
We started with homemade garlic bread – warm, fluffy, and clearly made in-house. It was actually some of the better garlic bread we’ve had in a while, though it could have used more actual garlic flavor.
For mains, the restaurant works together with the neighboring place for certain dishes. One of us had a lamb dish, which was generous in portion and very tasty – definitely a highlight of the evening. We also ordered a Margherita pizza and a rather unique Carbonara pizza – something none of us had seen before. The pizzas were okay, nothing to complain about, but also nothing that stood out. If we go again, we’d probably try their pasta instead.
Surprisingly, no dessert was offered – which is quite rare for Kos and left the meal feeling a bit incomplete.
Unfortunately, the ambience was where the experience faltered. We were seated in a narrow alley between the two restaurants, which could have been charming but turned chaotic. Children ran and cycled between tables throughout the meal – over 20 times – almost bumping into servers and guests. To top it off, while we were waiting for our food, a woman passed by in a rather unhygienic state. Again, not the restaurant’s fault, but it definitely affected the overall dining mood. The background music was also dull and repetitive, doing little to enhance the experience.
The service was friendly enough, but slightly distracted and not particularly attentive.
All in all, it was an okay experience with good food, but the surroundings and lack of finishing touches like dessert held it back from being a place we’d rush to return to.
Overall: ★★★½☆ (3.5/5) Food: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Service: ★★★½☆...
Read moreWe had a takeaway pizza from here on holiday and loved it. So we decided to go and eat in. It took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were there and that we would like a table. When we got seated the table had to be cleaned. Not a big deal. They left us with the menu and we waited and waited for them to take our order. The waiter was lovely but running around like a headless chicken. My husband asked for a ashtray and it never appeared, so he took one from another table. We ordered garlic mushrooms and garlic bread with cheese for starters. The garlic was so burned on the mushrooms it was bitter and just not edible. The garlic bread with cheese was OK but nothing special. For the main course that arrived before we finished the starters we had a spaghetti supreme and a spaghetti with meat balls. I've never eaten anything so bland. The sauce for the meatballs didn't taste of anything, the pasta was overcooked and the meatballs were bland and some bits were burned. I asked for some parmesan cheese but none arrived. The supreme was slightly better but not much. The restaurant had clearly been busy but so have many of the other restaurants during this holiday but they all were a lot better than this. Disappointing, will...
Read moreWas really looking forward to coming to this restaurant as it looked very appealing to what we wanted and was highly reviewed. Waitress that sat us was very friendly and attentive. When it came to ordering three out of four of us ordered pasta in different types of pasta, when the food arrived all three pastas had been made in a different type to the one we had ordered. Obviously we said that the order was incorrect and the staff were kind enough to offer to remake it, however having already waited 30 mins (not a problem) we didn’t want to wait again. Later on we made a comment about the mistake however staff said it was a kitchen fault and it had been very busy that night (it hadn’t been that busy). The food was very good, not really what we’d wanted but still tasted good. What would have improved the experience would have been an apology direct from the staff without prompt or an offering for the mistake...
