Blanco beachside — Restaurant in Municipality of Malevizi

This has been our go-to place during our holidays in Crete. From the first day we rented a set of sunbeds on the beach (€12,— for the day) we were taken by the friendly and genuinely happy staff. When on the beach you can order drinks and food from the ‘Snack Menu’ and they’ll serve you on the beach for the same price as on their terrace. The sunbeds are good and well maintained. The staff regularly clean the sand in between the beds and umbrellas. If you prefer to sit at a table for your lunch or dinner, you can have a table on the terrace, or if conditions are adverse, have a table inside the club. There are good food and drinks menus and we’ve tasted a wide selection of both. It doesn’t matter wether you choose a snack a salad, pizza, pasta, seafood or meat dish, the quality is very good. Everything is fresh and most ingredients are locally sourced and well prepared. Cold dishes like salads are crisp and tasty, hot dishes are piping hot when served and retain their flavour throughout the meal. The staff are friendly and helpfull in case you have trouble choosing. We arrived early to the beach before the restaurant officially opened and made ourselves comfortable on the sun beds, thinking we’d enjoy the view while waiting. For about an hour, everything was peaceful—until an older woman came by and, rather abruptly, asked how many people were in our group. She informed us (not too politely) that the sun beds were not free and needed to be paid for.

Given that we only had about 45 minutes before we had to leave, it didn’t make sense to pay for the chairs and try to rush through drinks or food. We decided to move to the patio instead for a quick drink. It’s a shame, because we were ready to spend money and would have loved to enjoy a relaxed experience on the beach with a cocktail and a small bite. Unfortunately, the woman’s unfriendly approach really soured the mood.

On a more positive note, our waitress on the patio was kind and welcoming, which helped make up for the initial encounter.

The restaurant impresses with a truly delicious selection of dishes. I would especially like to highlight:

• Club Sandwich: fresh, crispy, and perfectly layered – just the way it should be. • Pasta with Pesto: aromatic, creamy, and wonderfully seasoned, definitely a highlight. • Tuna Salad: light, fresh, and with a great balance between dressing and ingredients.

The quality of the food is consistently high and makes you want to come back. One small point for improvement, however, is the service: once the food is served, it takes quite a while before a staff member comes back to the table. Especially if you’d like to order something else or ask a quick question, a bit more attentiveness would be appreciated.
