A total rip off. They charge prices above average and it seems that it is all for decor. Ordered octopus and Cretan salad and a 0.5 l of house wine. We were sure that the wine was complimentary ouzo, since it reeked like one and was undrinkable. It was not 0.5 l as well. Octopus was chewy and very expensive for the discounting taste. Cretan salad was not garnished with olive oil, potato was overcooked and the famost crispy dried bread was at the bottom of the salad, thus soggy. Olive oil was not even served at the table. Not even a pepper grinder or salt shaker, just packets of salt and pepper. If you pose as semi decent restaurant, this is unacceptable. When the waitress came to me and saw that I have barely touched the salad, she did not ask what was wrong, just took away my plate. When paying I have told her that the food was disgusting and she did not even apologize for it. Later she did come and told me that she is sorry and it can be due to octopus being frozen. I have eaten way better frozen octopus in multitude of different places. In addition she gave the feedback to the seem to be owner, who later gave me the look "what do you even know?!". Please avoid this place at all cost. It is not worth your effort not money. Even if I would have paid a third, it would still...
Read moreThis taverna steps away from Amoudara Beach is one of the finest eateries for traditional Cretan cuisine on the island. We've dined here dozens of times, and we've dined at hundreds of other Crete establishments.
The amazing lady who created this experience (and it is that), Anna Karfaki is truly one of the sMall gods of Crete. The love this lady has for people and for all things Cretan is exhibited in a museum of local artifacts, personal items, and every facet of the design and function of this restaurant.
If you had to skip every other taverna on the island, and could only choose one, Mitato would not disappoint. Just writing this review makes me want to go and visit Anna for lunch.

Read moreOrdered food and waited 30 minutes to be told sorry there was a mistake with our order and it would be just a few more minutes. 20 more minutes and nothing had appeared. Everyone in the whole place who came in after us had been served by then, so we left. Complained on our way out to the boss and head waitress only to be lied to. She said she'd explained that our pork chop would take a very long time to cook. She had NOT been anywhere near us. Nearly 1 hour to cook a pork chop is unbelievable. Unfortunately this spoilt the last night of our holiday. We live in the Chania area and in 20+ years never experienced such rudeness and bad service. Best...
