Our hotel talked us into going for our anniversary when I already saw reviews, and it didn’t look that nice, they said they’d make reservations & set us up with a driver. We were told it was very romantic & they take care of their hotel guests & it would be a great experience, and great view & perfect time for the sunset & it was in a cave. All of that was wrong, it was horrible service, view is just ok, better views other places, no sunset east side of island, we had to pay for a driver to take us 25 min on other side, was very rustic & not in a cave, it’s on the side of what seemed more like a cliff or rock type wall, & there was really loud Greek music playing we could barely talk. The table they sat us at had a big pole at the end of the table sort of blocking the view & was a table for 6 when there was 2 of us & they sat us the the middle 2 seats, and they weren’t busy at all. I was thinking this is the best table & view when they knew we were coming from the hotel for a nice dinner. The servers barely came over, we brought a bottle of wine from Napa for our anniversary & ordered pre dinner drinks & an appetizer that was 65€. We were told the corking fee would be 100€ & I said it’s usually only 30€ at other restaurants and asked if they could work with us, thinking they were dead…. and I said they didn’t have anything close to it on the menu, it’s our favorite Napa Cabernet we wanted to have it for our anniversary & our hotel said to come there they’d take care of us. The server went over to the owner or manager sitting at the bar & came back & said it was still going to be 100€. And after 20 minutes we still didn’t have a drink that we ordered when we got there & there were only 2 other tables, we felt like an inconvenience. The manager or owner was sitting at the bar with a friend partying it up & kept telling them to turn the music up…. we were told it could be more party during the day but would be a nice romantic feel at night. I think the hotel gets a kickback or something. We have been treated like royalty at every other restaurant in Greece, everyone has gone above & beyond everywhere we’ve went all over Greece. This was the first time we had such a bad experience, we felt so neglected, and that they didn’t care about us after still not having drinks or an appetizer we got up & left. In the end if the service & delivery of the communication was better we would’ve stayed & paid the high corkage, but everything about the feel & experience was wrong! We ended up calling another taxi & had them take us last minute to another restaurant I found from my research before, Yevo fine dinning, gastronomy at Bill & Coo. It was absolutely fabulous, the sommelier came over & saw our wine & said it would be the typical corkage rate in Greece 25€, we both about fell out of our chairs, that was more than fair! And it was a high end fine dining restaurant, with a tasting menu, where you would expect to pay 100€ for corkage! The view was fabulous with the sunset over looking the ocean, absolutely beautiful, perfect music & great vibe! They treated us like royalty & was a great ending from a...
Read moreSorry for the long set up. My wife and I (and teen age boys) enjoy contemporary high- end restaurants in our travels and are dubious about google reviews at these types of establishments because they are flooded with people who either think rules (such as showing up on time for your reservation) don’t apply to them or are shocked when there is music on. We tend to trust Michelin or Worlds Best, which don’t exist in the Greek Isles. We choose 4 restaurants on this trip to Mykonos with lower stars in google because they are flooded with these types of reviews “over price, obnoxious staff, music too loud” which again we don’t shy away from.
While the other three (Scorpios for dinner, Nammos Beach Club and lunch and Noema for a late dinner) were all absolutely iconic, Spilia, I can confirm is overpriced and absolutely obnoxious (for lunch ironically)
When we showed up perfectly on time with our two well dressed, well travelled boys, who were listed as such on the reservation, it was as though we were showing up with 2 feral mountain goats. Everyone from the hostess, guy who seated us, waiters, water were in fact obnoxious, sour faced attitude. I thought it was about the boys at first but they didn’t seem to be tossing out a smile at anyone really.
A few highlights include my son (who has eaten the tasting menu at Disfrutar) asking how the salmon was prepared, for which the one word answer was “normal” … the “raw king scallops in the shell” which are literally 3 coin sized slices of scallops that they reuse shells to serve perhaps 1/3 of a total scallop in for FIFTY EUROS… and me, having done my research, asking if the half portion of the live lobster pasta dish was for sharing (as the pictures show) or if the half portion was an individual size….I asked because my younger son would have shared it with me. The waiters response was “it’s whatever you want” … so we all ordered our own entree and indeed the half portion of the lobster pasta was ENORMOUS, like three meals, so my son pushed his order aside and split mine with me. Yes it tasted delicious which is what happens when you put tons of great EVOO and garlic on almost anything.
Not that hard to be friendly and grateful for your customers guys. You got the actual difficult part done well on a great setting and great space and great food sourcing. The scallops are a joke but otherwise just retrain your staff from a “your lucky to be here” and as disinterested and transactional attitude to “we are lucky to have you” approach.
For those like us who are skeptical about poor google scores at high end places…this one is...
Read moreI wanted this review to be amazing, and about the food and view. Unfortunately because of the dishonest practices of this restaurant I will not be discussing any of that. This place will charge you for more thank you asked for and then tell you that because you ate it, that yuh must pay for it.
I went here on a recommendation from a fiend and at first all was lovely. Food, view, and drinks. We decide to share all of our course as we do when we don’t want to eat a lot. We ordered, a salad, an appetizer, and an entree to share. Normally I would discuss this part in detail but because of what happened at the end, I will not because I will NEVER return to this place.
After ordering one of everything to share we received our bill and noticed we were charged for two entrees instead of one, and also for bread that we were not told was a charge. Upon bringing this up to the server we spoke with a manager who refused to listen to our side, stating that he already had the story from his waitress. Luckily, for us, she had done the same thing to the two ladies next to us. Instead of apologizing for the miscommunication, or lack of, they told us we had to pay for the food because we ate it. Saying that we should have said something once we saw the size of the portions. Keep in mind, the portions were already large from what we could see and we had just ordered the same way the previous evening and had no problems at another restaurant. The manager then walks away only to send his staff back to us to tell us we had to pay or they would call the police. We welcomed them to do so as we had done nothing wrong and weren’t planning on not paying the bill, only that we didn’t like that we weren’t told what we were being charged. I’m the end the police never came and they did take off the one entree from the bill, which we happily paid. This obviously left a sour taste in our mouths enough that we were angry and never want to go back. I’m not sure if the ladies next to us weren’t there, if we would have had the same outcome. The fact that the manager couldn’t recognize that he was dealing with the same issues, from two different parties, at the same time, from the same server, was mind blowing. Insulting even more so. So be wary if after reading this you still decide to go, but you will never see me...
