Mitos ARTernative BAR — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Loved everything about this artsy little spot we ate at for lunch in Naxos as we were driving inland around different villages on the island. It’s on a quiet side street with plenty of shade with the grapevines growing overtop.

You might think, if you’re a tourist, “why have pizza in Greece instead of Greek food?” But I would counter, while not “traditional” fare, this still provided a unique and authentic meal!! The black pizza dough is an innovative take, where they infuse squid ink for the black color. And the toppings aren’t typical- they are local ingredients and flavors authentic to Naxos (which is especially known for produce like tomatoes and cheeses!)

The pizzas we ordered were the Mito’s Gourmet Special and the Sausage pizza. We definitely could’ve just shared one though (to feed two people), as they’re bigger than single-portion and also the crust is a bit thicker than super thin Neapolitan style pizzas. Both were very good!! Black dough was fun to try, although I’m not sure I tasted any distinct flavors. Still enjoyable nonetheless!

I also liked the extensive beer list available, with many Greek craft beers that I had not seen available anywhere else I’ve dined in Greece so far. The Ionian Radler was so refreshing and low alcohol content—perfect for midday and driving.

Forget monuments and ancient buildings, this place is a true attraction of Naxos! 🙂 The service was very nice and warm and the food was top notch.

Just a second after we sat down, we already got two cold glasses of water, which was very welcome.

We ordered two pizzas, Green Vegetarian and Gourmet Mitos. Toppings were great and the dough was spectacular.

This is also a great place if you like craft beers. I picked Ikariotissa and Syrma, both with notes of honey, and enjoyed them both. As far as non-alcoholic drinks go, the lemonade was superb.

Finally, we also got an amazing free desert, including kaymak icecream!

If I could give 10 stars I would do it. We really really enjoyed our evening there. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was nice, the place was very charming, and the most important thing is that the owner I think, was such a sweetheart. You could see the kindness on his face.
