Our last day in Greece following a cruise, we (4 English speaking travelers) wanted a truly authentic Greek dining experience. Luckily we chose Koutouki Kalypso, which was an easy 3-block walk from our hotel. The atmosphere immediately vouched for its authenticity as we stepped through the door when we heard raucous laughter at many tables and Greek being spoken by ~90% of the diners. A true neighborhood meeting spot! The 4 of us were heartily welcomed by the staff and escorted to our table. The menu was replete with traditional Greek fare. We chose fried cheese, spinach pies, and Greek salads to start, followed by a variety Greek meat platter. The meal was washed down by Greek wine (very inexpensive) by 2 of us and Greek beer for the others. Read moreWhat an amazing experience. I am a solo traveler and everyone has been super friendly and very welcoming. Teodor, my waiter, has been caring and looked after me the entire time of my dinner.
I followed the majority of the reviews and ordered: Tzatziki, a Greek Salad and a mixed appetisers. Portions are huge and I couldn’t finish it, so I asked to have it a take away. They also brought me fresh fruit and their house dessert. And as a finisher, also a local digestive.
This is a true gem that can be definitely worth a visit, even if you are staying in centre Athens.
The homely, welcomed atmosphere, the beautiful terrace, the high quality food and the friendliness of the entire staff, the outstanding fairness of the prices, make this place a must-to-visit place weather if you are staying for a weekend or for longer.
For me, this is a 10/10 for food, staff & price.
TOP TIP: if you are not a solo traveler, please...

While there was an English option on the tablet there was no way to know the corresponding Greek name.
We tried to get the attention of the individual who seated us but he gave a dismissive wave of his hand and turned away.
We decided this was an impossible...
