The Starfish, in Piraeus, Greece, is a friendly, welcoming restaurant, and offers an extensive menu of Greek dishes, including a a couple of vegan alternative salads. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are very generous. (Changes: See the August 2025 update below on the now disappointing beet root salad) I particularly love the beet root salad, filled with an abundance of succulent beets, avocado slices, walnuts, Kalamata olives, arugula, and topped with a rich balsamic vinegar. This dish is also regularly served with feta cheese for non vegans. The restaurant is located across from the sea, with outdoor seating and views of the water, sailboats, cruise ships, and sunsets, and experiences refreshing breezes from the sea. There is also a second floor dining area, with views of the sea. Friendly to solo dining guests. Latest update, August 2025: I returned to Starfish to have the vegan beet root and arugula salad that I had so enjoyed in the past. It was like a different restaurant. Everything about the salad was a big let down. The kitchen did not inform the server that they had no arugula for the arugula salad. Instead they sent it out with some limp, tasteless, shredded lettuce instead. It was less than half the size of the one I had before, pictured below. It had only a few pieces of beets instead of an abundant amount as before. All the nice, large, and abundant slices of avocado, have been reduced to a few little pieces. The walnuts were reduced in numbers also. It was much lower quality in general. It was a big disappointment but cost the same amount as the giant, abundant salad I had loved. No adjustments were made in the price for giving me a salad without one of the main ingredients present. Just a casual “sorry”. No responsibility taken for giving me something different than what I ordered. I don’t think I will return to Starfish, since my favorite vegan salad of theirs is no longer the special dish it once was. If you are relying on vegan dishes, I am removing this place from my recommendations, since the beet root salad was, in the past, the main, unique, vegan draw, and it no longer is worth recommending, nor making a...

A cab driver picked us up at the port and recommended we come to this restaurant. Google reviews were good and the menus posted online had reasonable prices. As soon as we arrived, we were ushered to the second floor where a waitress holding a platter of fish greeted us and asked which fish we wanted to order (I had not even sat down at this point). I told her I wanted to sit down and look at the menu but she continued to ask us which fish we wanted to order. Once again, I asked for the menu and she finally brought our group of 8 a single menu in English with the prices written in marker. The prices were ridiculously high - the daily fish special was 77€/kg. Suspecting we were being scammed, my husband asked her for a Greek menu and she replied that she didn’t have any other menus in English. My husband told her that a menu in Greek would be perfect and she nervously asked if we spoke Greek. We told her we were practicing. She finally brought a single English menu (even though she had just said there were no more English menus) with no prices written in it and later a menu in Greek (with no prices in it either) and continued to ask which fish we wished to order. We showed her a menu posted online with reasonable prices and she said that was an old menu but that the portions were large. Knowing we were being given the tourist treatment, we told them their prices were out of our budget and left. To their credit, they did not charge us for the bottle of water we consumed. We ate in a restaurant down the street where we had a delicious meal for much less than half the price of what we would have paid at the Starfish. If you’re a tourist, avoid this to tourist trap, and if you’re not, avoid simply because of their...
Read moreI came to this restaurant because I saw very good review from other customers, but my experience wasn't great unfortunately, maybe I ordered the wrong dishes.. First, I got the cheese saganaki as a starter, which was nice, but being basically a deep fried block of cheese, I only had half of it or it would have been too heavy for my stomach.. I'd recommend it as a sharing plate for 2-3 people. Then I had the grilled tuna, which was different than what I expected: normally you would expect a tuna steak to be a bit raw on the inside, so that you can taste the tuna flavour better.. this one was completely cooked and they also used some spices to cover the flavour more.. maybe this is the way they do it in Greece, but to my taste, it was ok but not great. Finally, since all their main dishes do not come with any side, I ordered a portion of "boiled greens" to go with the fish, and they brought me a really huge portion.. it was good but I had more or less 20% of it and had to leave the rest. My suggestion to them would be to add the option of a side for their main dishes, so that customers are not forced to order a full portion of vegetables or salad just to have a side for their main course. In conclusion, this was the most expensive meal I had in Athens, and unfortunately also the least satisfactory.. I think this restaurant has potential but they need to adjust a few things, or maybe I was just unlucky that day, but I feel like I have to share my experience...
