We’ve been traveling to Athens and the islands for food for many years, but in recent years, it has become a major disappointment—and this restaurant is one of them. I don’t know if it’s due to the recent influx of American tourists to Greece, but there seems to be an attitude toward all non-American visitors. Perhaps it’s because Americans are known to leave high tips, so they no longer want other types of tourists.
We experienced something similar at this restaurant. The waiter was extremely rude and inattentive. Since he wasn’t even listening properly, he got the order wrong and brought us the wrong dishes. The food itself was average—nothing special.
One noticeable trend lately is that portion sizes in Greece have shrunk while prices have gone up. This is true not only on the islands but also in central Athens and Piraeus.
In another order, we had asked for mussels, and we specifically requested that the pot mussels be made with wine sauce—because nowadays they don’t do that anymore. They just steam them and serve them plain, with no sauce whatsoever. Despite our clear request, the waiter brought mussels saganaki instead. He clearly misunderstood us.
In recent times, both the quality of the staff and their attitude, along with the rising prices, are making Greece a poor choice. In comparison, Spain and Italy currently offer far better cuisine and service for the same alternatives.
If Greece continues like this, it seems to be heading straight toward the kind of crisis it experienced in the mid-2000s. I sincerely hope they manage to...
Read moreBest restaurant in Piraeus according to the locals we spoke to, and also according to us as the food was superb! They even gave us free dessert since they wanted us to experience Greek sweets since we are tourists.
There's always a line outside this place and there's a reason for it. The portions are huge, the place is deemed the best restaurant by the locals and it has a great location just by the seaside!
They have an English menu, despite the fact that the name of the restaurant isn't written in English letters anywhere. Uploading pics of the menu to help you guys.
The pre-courses were very nice and on their own were enough to fill is up. The main courses were very nice as well and tasted great together with the pre-courses (we saved some bread, sallad, fried cheese and such to be able to mix it with the main course). I had the fried coz fillets since it felt like that was the only thing I could have from the menu (as I don't eat crayfish nor octopus).
The place isn't expensive (unless you order fish by weight) but not inexpensive either. The portions are huge though and the maitre'D knows English so he can help you out with anything (our waiter didnt know much...

Not many tourists in the place, definitely felt like locals eat here.
The menu says frozen for most food but I have a feeling this is lost in translation from the word “fresh”. There as definitely no indication the sea food was frozen, if it was, they’ve done a good job making it taste great.
The staff are awesome, we were served by what seems to be the owner, and while I can understand some people finding his style rude, we thought it was authentic and real. Other waiting staff were great, the younger ones speak good English and the older ones have a great sense of humour. When we asked for some water, the waiter turned around and pointed at the sea. Again, I can understand why this can frustrate some tourists, we found the humour excellent and really enjoyed everything about the place.
We were given free dessert and also a box to take away the food we couldn’t eat, which was a lot as the portions are massive, so be careful you don’t order too much! I’d say 4 or 5 side dishes is more than enough for 2 people.
Overall this was an excellent evening and I’m giving it 5/5, I would give it...
