Psaroskala Piraiki Piraeus Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Piraeus

I’m staying in the heart of Athens and wanted some seafood. Of course I knew I’d have to go to the coast or at least close to it. I found this cute place which is very cozy and rustic in decor. Upon walking in there’s some seafood (shrimp, different fishes)set in ice on display. The tables are covered with large paper that describes the various sea-creatures that they serve. The menu is extensive in terms of there’s something for everyone. It’s a great amount of options to choose from. I chose the Rocket salad, grilled shrimp, grilled lobster, calamari, French fries and a glass of the house wine (which was something white). The salad was phenomenal and the fries were the best I’ve had since being in Greece. However everything else was lack luster. The shrimp was extremely salty and dry. There was a weird after taste. The lobster, the reason why I was there, was my biggest disappointment. When I saw it I knew it would be disastrous. They said it was grilled but I don’t think it was. The meat was super dry and cottony in texture. There wasn’t much seasoning and don’t get me to start talking about the calamari. The menu notes that the seafood was frozen prior to being served but I know the lobster was fresh as it was brought to me before preparing. I did enjoy their customer service and the attentiveness in the beginning.

Side note: my friend had the linguine with shrimp and she enjoyed it. It was soo much food, she was unable...

Food was very good value, tasty and fresh.

Service was chaotic to say the least, one guy seats you, a different guy gives you the menu, another guy puts the bread and water on the table, you have no idea which one is your waiter. After about 20 mins of waiting I asked another different guy (who was clearing the table behind me) if I could order and he complained that I hadn't said anything so it was my fault that I was sitting there?

It was busy and I was happy to wait for food which took a while but no problem.

After the main course I asked for desert, while I was waiting another waiter literally threw the bill on my table as he was passing without any further interaction.

After speaking with two more staff I eventually got desert.

I wanted to get the bill, again had to wait until someone started to clear up an adjacent table before I could catch anyone's attention. I asked for the card machine and had to wait another 25 mins (meanwhile other tables were asking for their bill and getting served).

I understand things are busy, but the service was generally poor as saw other tables waiting for things like menus etc.

Better organisation / training...

Generally good food and cooking. The place is orderly and clean with paper table cloths and cotton napkins. Waiters always look busy and difficult to flag one down.

Can be quite crowded during popular hours. Next to the sea and water view with a single lane road in between.

Now comes the shortcomings. Moderately noisy and full of energy. No air con but fans only so can get hot during the afternoon.

I need to wait a while for the food. 30-40 minutes before it comes so make sure you have enough time for the meal.

Sadly the fried calamari we ordered never came. I think they forgot or sent it to another table. We almost got charged for it too. They were not even apologetic just dismissing it casually and even made sure we did not get it.
