Eva, the chef, was very accommodating for my vegan diet. Some vegan and vegetarian choices on the menu, with generous portions. Most of the vegan dishes pictured here were made especially for me, and not on the regular menu, which features, primarily, a lot of traditional Greek fish dishes. I chose vegan spaghetti, custom made for me, with olive oil, fresh tomatoes and sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, olives, peppers, onions, sprinkled with chopped, fresh scallions on top. This dish was flavorful, and had enough food to take home leftovers. Next time I’ll try the eggplant with tahini sauce which sounds great. Sparus restaurant is a friendly, casual, welcoming, peaceful place, reasonably priced, across the street from the sea, with fresh breezes, and shady, outdoor seating, overlooking the passing sailboats. Friendly to solo guests. Additional to my review: I spent a considerable amount of time in Piraeus and kept returning to Sparus Restaurant. Chef Eva created delightful, delicious and consistently creative, and different special vegan dishes for me, with each visit. I couldn’t ask for better food while in Piraeus, on my visit. One day we collaborated on making stuffed grape leaves and Chef Eva demonstrated some Greek recipes for me, all made vegan, especially, including vegan moussaka, a vegetable soup, a salad, and a dessert. I’ve added a number of my photos, taken of a variety of dishes I enjoyed at Sparus Restaurant since I first wrote my review. All photos copyright: Joyce Glasgow,...
Read moreReally disappointing experience. We came expecting a nice fish taverna with good food — instead, everything was rushed and careless.
We placed our order and within 10 minutes everything arrived at once — appetizers, mains, and even the fish. No sense of pacing, no effort to create any kind of dining experience. We might as well have been eating at a self-service canteen.
We ordered fried potatoes — a simple Greek classic — and were instead brought a sad plate of about 10 soggy, reheated pieces. Cold, flavorless, and definitely not freshly cooked. If they don’t make proper fried potatoes, at least inform the customer.
A proper taverna should know what an appetizer is and when it should be served. You can’t just throw all the plates on the table at once and expect people to enjoy the meal. Customers deserve...
Read moreI ordered lunch here in the rainy weather outside the tourist season. I didn't see any foreigners except me, maybe the tourists don't know this place well. It's definitely worth a walk there for a delicious lunch, especially since the place is almost halfway between the ferry port and the marina along the coast. For a small price I ate a four-course meal of delicious Greek delicacies and I have to say that I was exceptionally full. The dishes were delicious (fawa, Aphrodite salad, octopus, fish), and it was not easy to eat everything because of the large portions. Very nice service, there were no major problems with communicating in English, although an online translator can also be useful sometimes. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try Greek cuisine...
