What an experience. Our son saw this restaurant and asked if we could eat there as we walked past. Glad we did.
The decor was very nice, comfy seating. Service was excellent and attentive. The food…..wow. My son had the Moussaka and said it was one of the best. He’s not wrong. A good depth of flavour to it. My wife had the stuffed vegetables, this was very tasty. I had a dish I’d never seen on a menu before in Crete, and we’ve eaten at many places. (I cannot recall what it was) but orzo pasta, slow cooked chunks of beef, cheese on top and a tomato like sauce. Excellent food.
What topped it for me was when the waiter asked if he could bring out a plate and spoon for our son so he could get his moussaka out of its lava hot bowl to allow to cool. The attention to customer service was brilliant.
We were all stuffed afterwards so no dessert. Sorry no pics, totally forgot! We just got stuck in!!
Will defo be back!!
Edit:
We came back two days later. (Took photos this time too!) My Son had the Moussaka again, I had the plate of everything. Think mixed grill, but with other Greek dishes such as Moussaka, stuffed vegetable, orzo and other dishes I cannot spell.
We stayed for dessert this time too, with my Wife having Baklava....
Read moreHello Tourists! Unfortunately I have to inform about most bad experience I had during whole my life. We had a brunch with my husband. Waiter served us well and fast. He was asking, if food is OK, I just said that Fried Calamari is not their "strong side". But in generally everything was fine. Then I got a video call from my sister. Suddenly the owner of cafe came and made a notification to me that she is speaking very loudly. I made to minimum the sound of the phone. The owner came again and said me unfriendly that he makes me second notification. There were only 3 x tables occupied at whole cafe. I have asked nearby sitting old people couple, if I disturb them, they have been very surprised and could not understand what is going on. There is a busy street road where are constantly driving cars, signaling. The owner said to me he does not like us at his cafe. I said that he is very unpolite. Do you know what was a reason? We were speaking on Russian! Hei, people! I am not from Russia! I was born in Ukraine and living in Latvia. But yes, Russian is our native language. This is a real descrimination! I paid a bill and left a cafe, crying.... By the way regarding food: shrimps saganaki were testy but there were only 5 x whole shrimps and 2 x...
Read moreWe have recently returned from a holiday to Rethymnon. We have dined in Gorgona a few times on previous trips and returned as we love the food, service and ambience. I have coeliac disease and I am apprehensive when dining out. I feel really safe eating here. I always choose a meal which I think will be gluten free and the waiters will confirm if this is suitable for me, so they are very knowledgeable. What made my experience really special was when they informed me that they would cook a gluten free moussaka if I gave them a day’s notice. I love moussaka and haven’t been able to have it on holiday for a couple of years since being diagnosed. I duly gave them one day’s notice and the following evening I had the most delicious moussaka . So thank you to ALL the staff for making me feel safe when eating in your taverna. I cannot fault the food, service or atmosphere. You truly deserve your 5 stars...
