We stayed at Bio Beach Boutique Hotel in Rethymno some time ago, but the experience has stayed with us because of a few serious issues.
The hotel itself is beautiful and well-located, and most of the staff were incredibly kind and professional. The bartender in particular was always friendly, welcoming, and one of the highlights of our stay.
However, several moments during our stay left us uncomfortable and disappointed, especially given the price of around €3,000 for one week.
One evening around 6:30 PM, we were taking a nap after a long hike. Someone began knocking, but before we had time to get dressed or respond, they unlocked the door and came into our room. I was half-asleep and only wearing a T-shirt and underwear when a man walked in, saying he was there to check the jacuzzi. We had not been informed that anyone would be entering the room, and there was no call or message from the front desk beforehand. This was a serious violation of our privacy. I cannot imagine how terrifying it would have felt if my husband had not been there and I had woken up alone to a stranger in the room.
Another issue was the elevator, which jolted extremely hard while we were using it. It felt for a moment like the cable had snapped. When we informed reception, they casually said it happens sometimes. We later learned that other guests had also experienced this. If a safety issue like this is known, guests should be warned at check-in.
We also felt uncomfortable with how staff responded to us using the Do Not Disturb setting. We are night owls and often used the jacuzzi at night, then slept in. Since we were only there for a week, we didn’t need daily cleaning. Still, we felt judged by the staff for our sleeping habits, even though using the privacy setting is part of what the hotel offers.
The hotel has a lot of potential, and the friendly staff made many parts of the stay enjoyable. But the lack of communication around room access, safety concerns, and respecting guest boundaries left a lasting negative impression. These issues should not happen at a hotel in this...
Read moreWe went to Crete on a one week long vacation and chose to stay at the Bio Beach-hotel in Rethymno. ||I never have any high expectations when booking a hotel because I don't want to be dissapointed. This time it was not the case.||Just as we came to the hotel from the airport it felt right. The staff at the reception was very nice and so was the hotel. Fresh and clean.||We came to our room and was almost surprised as how nice it was and a very large balcony directed to the ocean. We booked a junior suite, which was the smallest room. But I can ensure you that it did not feel small at all.||During our entire week we had a overall great experience and I would recommend anyone who wants to book a child-free, couples vacation to book this hotel.||||Some things I want to mention positively:||• Free sunbeds that's always available because there's more sunbeds at the beach than they are living at the hotel.||• Very nice staff who were extremely helpful with everything.||• Fresh and clean.||• Close to Old Town, which has excellent restaurants.||• Extremely quiet, we never heard our neighbours.||• Very good air condition.||||Some things I want to mention negatively:||• There's a road outside with much foot-traffic and car-traffic, which can be annoying for those who have a problem with that.||• First night we noticed that the shower was clogged so we had to call the reception, so they fixed after a couple of hours.||• Very small refrigerator. ||• We thought the breakfast was a bit small, but I think some people would think it's great....
Read moreIf you wanna stay close to the beach in Rethymno, this is the hotel for you. At first, we didn't expect much due to its price. When we arrived, the lady took us to the room to see if we like it before confirming our booking. The service was even better than most of 5 star hotels. The room itself was maintained in a good shape. It looked new, cozy with a relatively large smart TV and a very clean balcony. All room were facing the sea. The view was fantastic. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. And a short stroll to the city. They also provide bottles of water whenever you need. Or else just go downstairs, there are supermarkets nearby for snacks and drinks. Breakfast was sufficient while you could sit closer to the road and enjoy the sea breeze. We stayed there for two nights. We had seafood dinner outside and only had lunch at the hotel restaurant before we left. Not only their food tasted way better than the seafood restaurant we visited twice, it was half the price comparing most of the restaurants nearby. We got the shrimp risotto, the portion was big. We found it too late as it was our last day of our trip. Otherwise we would definitely dine in the hotel again. So this is a little tips - try it out at least once. I highly recommend this hotel...
