Overall our stay was pleasant: the room was large enough, we saw the sea from our balcony, toilet was big enough not to feel cramped and we had a kitchenette with everything except a pan for Greek coffee (which we like). The staff was friendly, they picked us up from the harbor and drive us back when it was time to go. The food in the restaurant was reasonably priced and very tasty, both during the day and in the evening. The private beach they have was nice although the path there is a bit steep, so it may not need the best choice for the most frail. For everyone else it poses no challenge. There are free sunbeds and umbrellas (in varying condition) as well as some tables. They also have a canoe and a “water bike” so if you use those you could save tens of euros during your stay compared to other options. There is no service on the beach but I don’t see that as a bad thing, just something I wanted to mention to those who look for full service. But those probably go for all-inclusive places anyway. ||The bed was very good in Greek standards, and we’ve tried several dozen different ones over the years. The moussaka we had one evening was the best I’ve ever had. Truly home made in their own way, from fresh ingredients and cooked the same day. I’d walk there for that from the town center (which is 300m away). The location is one of the bonuses of this place: it’s “far away” from everything else so it is SO quiet there. I just loved that. One day we got to enjoy a pack of goats just outside the balcony. ||One big minus (for the whole town) comes from all the lights everywhere. This town is supposed to be one of the very few places with little light pollution and we were hoping to do some stargazing. Yes, you can see some stars but the lights everywhere just hides most of them. What an opportunity wasted. Note, this isn’t a fault of the hotel, it’s the street lights on the roads that spoil it all. It’s just that this one is away from the center so they would have a perfect chance to take advantage of that if the lights could be turned off after some time. ||So pluses:|+ quiet|+ beds|+ nice views|+ all you need under one roof (if you want)|+ moussaka (had to mention again)||Minuses:|- sunbeds/umbrellas in varying condition, not as nice as in places that charge for them. Still very usable|- light pollution prevents you from enjoying the amazing skies (but this goes for the entire village)||I would heartily recommend this place to anyone wishing to enjoy Agia Roumeli. It doesn’t prevent you from checking out other restaurants and sights and you won’t even notice the crowd coming out of Samaria gorge in the afternoon filling all places as they don’t...

this is probably the most remote place with a beach you can visit in Crete. Very hearty hosts and beautiful environment! The appartments are basic but equipped with all one needs inc. clean A/C. We took it because it offers the only apparents in Agia Roumeli that have separate areas for separate bed-times. All other places offer triplet rooms at most. Bedside sleepers are camp beds but our 5-year-old slept well in it. Balcony is in shade in the afternoon (a pro!) There are free (old) pedalos, kayaks, sun beds and sun sheds for guests at the beach, which is 20 m downhill (partly steep). There are only a few guests, so there is always space. The Water is clear, very warm on the surface and good underwater wildlife (for the Mediterranean sea) It's good advice to practice a few Greek phrases before you go, English is very limited. WiFi is good downstairs but not in the rooms. 4G+ is limited in this area. The food at the place is ok but not great and they have a wasp problem in the evening, so better to walk 5 minutes to Calypso or cook yourself. You should bring your essentials (except food). Agia Roumeli is a very quiet place after the last ferry leaves and there are no large supermarkets, e.g. no nappies or similar available; you need to plan ahead if you have special...

Mashali Sweet Corner is a very beautiful and charismatic place run by some really amazing and friendly people. We felt very welcome and our stay was very pleasant. The rooms were old but very clean and they were definitely good value for money. Included in the stay was the use of the beach equipment which was really great! We also enjoyed eating at the restaurant. Their Tsigariasto Lamb was excellent, and so was everything else. The prices were also very decent. Overall this place really surprised us and if if we ever visit Agia Roumeli again this will be our first pick.

Fantastic place, in a quiet corner of Agia Roumeli, with its own private beach (free umbrella), the food is amazing: fresh fish is caught by the owner and cooked within the day (see pics). For the rooms/little flats they are clean, basic, with ac and an amazing view helped by a balcony. A big plus is the fact that you can get the kayak or pedalo for free for the guests. The owner is very kind and generous. Prices are very honest. Surely the best accommodation in the village for an authentic place in crete.

Avoid the tourist traps in the small village and walk a bit further to this place! We had lunch here after our hike through the Samaria Gorge. The food is great, the hospitality is fantastic, and with a bit of luck, you'll find a private beach below the restaurant where no one else is.
