If you’re hiking through Agia Roumeli and think, “Maybe I’ll grab a bite and a drink”—go to Tarra Bar. Don’t think, don’t blink, just walk in like you own the place. The only thing more welcoming than the sea breeze is the duo running the show: Sifis and Andreas. Two brothers, one dream, and apparently zero stress levels.
Upstairs: the taverna. It is the best food in all of Crete. It changed my perspective on everything. I have traveled to 40+ countries. Everything tastes like it was made by someone’s grandma who knows too much about gastronomy. The grilled meats? Perfection. The salads? Fresh enough to slap you awake. The olive oil? Possibly illegal in some countries—way too good. I didn’t just eat, I entered a long-term relationship with a plate of lamb.
Downstairs: the bar. Now we’re talking. This is where Terra flips the switch. You come down for a drink and end up with five new friends, three laughs you didn’t see coming, and a cocktail that makes you wonder if Sifis is the Greek James Bond of bartending. The vibe? Casual. Fun. The kind of place where sandals are welcome and no one judges how many olives you’ve eaten.
The view? Oh right, just the entire Mediterranean Sea casually doing its thing while you sip, snack, and reconsider your life choices (in a good way). You sit there thinking, “Do I need to go back...
Read moreThis review is specifically about the bar which I believe belongs to the Taverna. I have stopped there whilst waiting for the boat. There was literally no customers. All I wanted was orange juice. The girl that was serving, was not at the bar, so her friend called her over. When she came, she had a face like she was angry i was even there. Her name was Maria. My God, what an awful personality, Not only she looked annoyed for having a customer, but when i asked to pay with a card, she rolled her eyes and sighed because she had to go upstairs. She was obviously saying something to her friend in greek which I did not understand, What an awful customer service, honestly, I would never ever stop there again. She made me feel like an intruder! The only nice person was a lovely gentleman who took my card payment upstairs. Maria is certainly not a person to be doing a customer facing job, Her attitude was despicable. Smile doesn't...
Read moreA Greek friend told us to come in Agia Roumelli because it is magic, and he was right! We arrived with the ferry, and the first impression was how nice the Tavern Tarra was showing. People welcomed us warmly and gave us the last room that they had. Big new room in a new building, very clean, high tech shower, climatisated air, table chairs and drying on the balcony, a view just above the other houses, but quite not seeing the see. We also ate there in the evening and it was wonderful, nice service, fresh air on the terrasse. Fishes were very good and they offered us watermelons and raki as dessert. In the morning, breakfast with view on the beach, typical sfakiani pita very good with honey, and little walk in this...
