Manolis — Restaurant in Municipality of Sifnos

This has been a favourite for several years but it’s gone down the drain. I booked 5 days early for the last night of our holiday as a special treat, and the manager promised me a table by the water, but didn’t say which. Yesterday we arrived all excited and were shown to a table in second row. I complained and, after initial indifference, the manager came and lectured me loudly about how this is a good table and how better customers who come all the time get priority - he called them ‘friends‘. My hunger dissolved but regretfully I stayed because my family had to eat. The lamb chops my daughter ordered were terrible - mostly bone and grease. I realised the food had really gone average at best and the best asset - the view - is shamelessly negotiated against who pays more. Yet people pile up from yachts and what not. Pity. He winked and said, next year, adding insult to injury. I’ll keep my meagre service away from this place. I’ve been coming to Sifnos for 27 years, and Vathy since there’s been a road and bus to it. We were so disappointed, the service was not good, to the point the waiter seemed almost annoyed he had to actually serve us! We felt unnerved as whilst we were waiting (a long time) to actually place our order, a customer was querying their bill as their card had been charged twice. The restaurant were not prepared to refund her. I almost walked out at this point, I wished we had as the food we were eventually served was the worst I have experienced in the whole of the island. The lamb was old, tough and just a plate of bones and fat. We sent it back. The anchovies were dry,I did not want to risk eating and how you can go wrong with a greek salad I do not know. The feta was old, the tomato's hard and tasteless. Cut corners on the quality of the produce you use and it shows. The filo sesame cheese the worst I have ever had. I have visit this place several times with my family this summer. Today for my surprise after I was informed from a member of a staff than I have to wait,approximately 30 minutes and before I discuss with my wife if we gonna wait or not a member of the staff quite rudely ask me to go as my present is annoying for the business and not good for the atmosphere. To overcooked a fish or a huge delay on my order previously is not a big deal as i understand the lack of staff or management is just a basic tavern working for seasonal period try to make for living for the all year.
