In 2021 and 2022 and 2023 we have eaten at Anchor several times. We have tried other restaurants in the area but we always returned as the quality of Anchor in respect of food and service was unmatched.
In short: fantastic, Mediterranean cuisine at a friendly price, excellent wines (we are not experts in beers), highly qualified and nice staff. The constant, caring presence of the owner is a guarantee for quality.
In detail: We have managed to taste the whole menu over the course of two weeks and we have absolutely anchored down here :). Everything is freshly prepared from fresh ingredients. It is evident that every detail is well-planned and specific attention is paid to every element of the foods. Every salad is exceptional, with good dressings, one of them includes freshly grilled chicken, one includes grilled Greek cheese, one with original Campagna DOP buffala mozzarella. Risottos and pastas are all prepared al dente, not over-cooked. Their flavouring is explosive. The risotto with truffle is highly addictive, it cannot be missed when you are here. We hope it never gets taken off the menu. The linguine with green pesto is on the same level. The meals to be shared are also highly recommended to everyone, the fried potatoes are covered with fantastic cheese dressings, one of them with bits of beef cheeks and the other with home-made bacon. The meats are also special, evidently from great ingredients, the basic flavours of the meats is not intended to be over-powered by salt and herbs. Burgers, the beef cheek (with a special flavouring), the tomahawk steak and the chicken thighs on the spit are extraordinary. The waffles and the pancakes are absolutely amazing. The wines are refreshing, with good acidity. We express our huge respect and gratefulnees to the staff who work tirelessly in the heat for months all day, and the foods are still flawless, while the waitresses are always nice, frienfly and informative.
Since the sea and Anchor are both amazing, we will certainly...
Read moreWe stopped because our friends recommended the pancakes. We told from beginning that we stopped only for desert and I felt the waitress didn't look so happy. Probably a wrong feeling or maybe it was the afternoon hot air. We asked for the pancakes and find out that they are not available in the afternoon. We missed that information in the menu, if it was there. Because we did not want to disappoint our friends, we ordered some wafe desert. Nobody told us that it will take 25 min. So when we comment in the end we got only defensive explanations. Eventually, to get rid of us, the manager said: "Our mistake" but with a tone nobody would believe him.
We did not manage to taste anything from the appreciated food plates, so my 1-star is for how we got treated.
Answer to the replay of the owner:
I tried to explain an unpleasant situation, where you wait 25 min for a desert in a country famous for fast serving. Instead of understanding the situation and improve or even maybe say sorry, you decided to further offend us by calling us arrogant.
I knew I was wasting time after my review, when I saw your answers to similar reviews. I whish you happy customers in the future, with much better reviews. Having 5* mostly from Local Guides...
Read moreOne hidden pearl in a totally unexpected place. This restaurant which serves breakfast lunch and dinner left me literally speechless. Don't mind the decoration which is mostly '90s English pub (minus the spilled beer stench), don't mind the customers age (who are probably too young to drink, attracted by the burgers section of the menu), and don't mind the area around the restaurant (no pretending parks, no pedestrian walkways, no seafront view)... When it comes to food this place is up there with the very best. Main dishes served juicy and tasteful, fresh salads are an event in themselves, the waitresses are kind, helpful and fun and prices are down to earth. The cook does NOT rely on heavy dressings to make the food interesting, rather a brilliant mix of herbs and spices that take each plate to a whole new level. Flaws are the short spirits list, the weak chicken main dishes (both the chicken nuggets and skewed are small in size and relatively blunt compared to the pork dishes) and the relatively small burger portions. Try to avoid those. On the other hand, you should definitely try the quinoa salad and the...
