Nea Diagonios — Restaurant in Municipality of Thessaloniki

I have seen this restaurant featured in a YouTube vlog of an American lady who resides in Athens but visited Saloniki not so long ago. I knew I had to try it sooner or later (not knowing the extent of how notable it is). Today I was nearby in Kalamaria and decided to go in (without a reservation which you can imagine is very difficult especially on a Sunday). I was warmly greeted (myself explaining that I was recommended to come here) and seated on a lovely table right by the window with sea and garden views. This must be the most aesthetically beautiful restaurant I have eaten at in Saloniki. The decor, the high ceilings (which I'm huge fan of), the full ceiling to floor windows which give it a more open feeling and especially allowing the sea and garden views. Nothing was not thought about when designing this acclaimed restaurant. I had the half portions of tzatziki and eggplant salad (both freshly made and not remade like in most Saloniki restaurants), a cheese with jam maze from the hot appetiser list and their famed Thessaloniki soutzoukakia (one dish which they are acclaimed for). Everything was impeccable and by far - this was the best culinary experience I have ever had in Saloniki. The service, the atmosphere and the cuisine / value - all worth 5 stars and more. Noone can miss this when in Saloniki. In downtown Thessaloniki you cannot find such outstanding quality (I know as I work remotely from Saloniki quite often and have eaten at various establishments in the city). I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nea Diagonios and I must say — it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.

The food was simply outstanding. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of authentic Greek flavor. The meats were juicy and grilled to absolute perfection, and the sides — especially the fresh salads and creamy tzatziki — elevated the entire meal. You can really taste the quality in every bite.

Beyond the food, the atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed. The space feels refined without being pretentious — warm lighting, tasteful decor, and a sense of quiet luxury that makes you want to linger a little longer.

A heartfelt bravo to the chef and the entire team. It’s clear that passion and professionalism are at the heart of everything they do. I left not only full, but genuinely impressed and already looking forward to my next visit.

Seems that all good reviews are paid and untruthful. Sep 14, evening - we were the only family who was at the restaurant, still before asking us about the drinks we were notified that the minimum order was 50 euro, so, if your order less than 50 then you can go and look for another place to eat. By the time our plates became empty no one approached to remove them from the table, instead 2 waiters were sitting at the table and playing with phones. Is this a service of your restaurant?
