How lucky we are that we could have our first experience here in Almira. First of all, what was awareness-raising that here the waiters did not have to invite people to eat there because even without ‘charming’ people it is a good a popular place. As a tourist, you will experience that every single ‘tavern’ and restaurant will try to invite you to eat there which can be annoying after saying your 10th “Thanks, you are very kind but no” but here they did not say anything until we went to check their menu. As we were checking, a waiter called Beni went to us and kindly asked if we would like to try out their repertoire. Having said yes, he put his hands behind his back and asked us where we would like to take a seat. We chose the table closest to the sea and ordered a mix of grilled fish for two. In addition, we thought that it would be great to drink some white wine. Before serving the fish, Beni brought us some home made bread with olive and some kind of sauce. Jeez that bread…it was extremely delicious. I could smell the smoke of the wood on it. It was really home made and brought me some happy memories. Then, after ten minutes, they brought us the fish plate. It included four different kind of grilled sea fish, rice, and a couple of minutes later, they brought French fries(we ordered in this way - fries and rice). It was top notch for a reasonable price. In the following days, we tried out other restaurants as well but the service and the tastes were not close to this one. All in all, it was a great experience, and we came to a conclusion that this is one of the best places(if not the best) to eat out on Kamari beach. I can suggest to anybody who wants to eat great food and have a nice service without waiting too long to anything (when we went there there were at least 20 people but they still managed to pay attention to everybody opposed to other places where we sometimes had to ask for the bill twice.) Thank you for your service and the delicious food, everything was...
Read moreWe visited this place 2x. The first time, the food was delicious. Staff was terrible. Rude, abrupt, could care less about service. But okay, no big deal, the food was good. We went back the next night just for dessert. We ordered the Baklava and lemon cream. The Baklava was hideous. Literally, I've had better Baklava from a gas station. It tasted like it has been in the refrigerator for days and was soggy, on the top, rock hard on the bottom and had these congealed / gelatinous chunks. I absolutely love Baklava. It's my favorite dessert and I eat it often. I simply set it aside and we ate the other, which was OK. When we asked for the Baklava to be taken off the bill, oh my word. They absolutely lost their minds. I told the server it tasted old, like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for days and it was old and he sneered. He didn't hand me a bill, he wrote something on a piece of paper and me go inside to pay. The chef came out so angry and aggressive asking why I said it was frozen. I looked at him like what? I never said that. He insisted I did and Saud " You told him (the server) it was frozen. When I explained that it was a miscommunication he started raising his voice, took his bare fingers and started jamming it in the Baklava yelling " See!!!! Its not frozen!!!" I kept trying to explain that it was not frozen, but OLD and expired. However, he just couldn't stop freaking out. He tried to give us our money back , but we told him that it was an insult. We ate the other dessert and had every intention of paying. The chef absolutely could not let it go and yelled at us in Greek as we left. We asked around the strip if this was normal and based on what others said as well as the posts on here, it's just the norm for the staff here to be completely unhinged and aggressive. The food is not bad, but God forbid you say something when its subpar. They will lose...
Read moreI adore this place. Friendly and personable staff, they'll invite you in for a seat at a table of your choice, but they won't heckle you if you say you're good, they are relaxed about it. They're very attentive, you don't have to wait long at all for service, food, or the check; I've found they have better attentiveness than other seafront restaurants along the Kamari beachfront walk (though, the others are pretty good still, too). If you find you're waiting for service or the check, all you have to do is make eye contact and nod your head or raise your hand. The staff will also remember you if you're a repeat customer, which adds to the personability. I've also heard the staff speaking Greek (of course), English, Spanish, French, and some German.
The food is DELICIOUS. Everything's so fresh, the baklava (and other dishes, too) is homemade, the rabbit and chicken slide off the bone, the sweets are sweet but not overbearingly so (likely because of prominent use of honey instead of granulated sugar), and the fish is juicy. Like some other restaurants that serve fish, they'll ask if you want your fish fileted when they bring it to you and they'll do so right in front of you (speaks again to quality service). They have native Greek cuisine, and also some general cuisine that still jives with the island culture.
Great, relaxed, delicious, fun. Definitely a spot to...
