The best gluten-free restaurant in Santorini! -
Where do I start with Gia Mas? First of all, if you're a celiac or gluten-free traveler staying in Kamari or anywhere in Santorini, this is the restaurant you want to visit. The reviews saying to "talk to George" are absolutely correct -- for anyone with a gluten problem, talking to George is the way to assuage all your fears! After clarifying which menu options were gluten-free and how they were prepared separately and safely, we ordered (on our first visit) the seafood platter for two, with an appetizer of fava dip with toasted gluten-free bread. The meal was absolutely delicious, and practically more than we could eat. The seafood and fish were so fresh and tender, and the fava dip and bread were delicious! The prices were absolutely fair as well, especially considering the top-notch quality and service!
In regards to service, nothing could have been better. George and Josemaria (sp?) were always friendly and attentive to our every need. The entire staff and team was excellent. An extra shout-out to everyone in the kitchen, too! You made our stay in Kamari memorable.
Our experience was so great that we returned almost every day during our time in Santorini. We also enjoyed calamari, the eggplant "little boat," a potato appetizer in a feta sauce (so tasty!), lamb kleftiko, and, on our last day, a tzatziki dip (decorated with a smiley face!) and gluten-free bread to ring out our last afternoon in Santorini. If we had had more time, we might have tried other options, like the gluten-free pizza, too. I don't regret not exploring other restaurant options, because at Gia Mas, we truly felt like we were being welcomed in by family.
Spectacular food with spectacular service in a spectacular atmosphere... whether you need to eat gluten-free or not, you can't go wrong by visiting Gia Mas during your time in Santorini! You absolutely...
Read moreWe made reservations for a specific day, time and sitting place. The only which wasn’t as agreed was the sitting place. It wasn’t “nice” at first, but that didn’t affect the experience at all
As the previous reviews say, the food is excellent. Everything we ordered was simply delicious!
The fried feta cheese with honey is amazing. I’ve never smelled or tasted any honey like that one before. It’s impossible to describe with words
We ate much less and tasteless food at a restaurant in Fira. So when the check came, we just couldn’t believe how much and well we ate here! The relation between prices, sizes and quality of dishes is too good AND true
The restaurant was full at all times. Most of the waiters seemed overwhelmed. But at the end of the day, we did get the food we wanted; and waiting times were not long, truth be told
SPOILER ALERT RELATED TO LAMB BELOW
If you order lamb (I don’t remember the name of the dish), it will come wrapped up in a plastic bag. So you won’t see the content at first
The lady sitting next to me ordered that dish and the waiter came and said something like “now I’ll reveal the delicious calamari you’ll have”
The lady repeated several times that she had ordered lamb, not calamari; but the waiter insisted
Turns out the woman was actually having the lamb; it was just a joke 🤷♀️
If that had been me, I would have been extremely upset and disappointed by that behavior… but apparently some people find that funny 🤷♀️
So, if you are like me, now you can be on the...
Read moreIf you are having trouble deciding where to eat in Santorini look no further! We were on our last evening in Santorini and wanted authentic Greek food. This restaurant is located near the beach where there are many restaurants so it’s hard to choose. As a result, most restaurants have people standing outside trying to entice people to come in. We have encountered many “salesman like” people offering a free drink or Ouzo (Greek drink) to come in. Since we were accustomed to being enticed that way we asked about it (to be clear we never expect this from a restaurant but it was offered so much by different restaurants that we thought it was normal). The response from the owner was authentic. He said “I’m sorry, I don’t offer free drinks here. We are family owned and work hard and can guarantee a delicious meal. My food stands for itself so I ask you to try it.” The response was so genuine that we decided to eat here and this place did not disappoint!!! We encountered the most delicious authentic Greek food! Everyone that works here is wonderful. I recommend ordering family style so you can try many dishes because it’s all delicious. We had the lamb (phenomenal), stuffed tomatoes, pita and tzatziki, Greek salad, the Bronzino (so tender it melts in your mouth) and so many other things I can’t remember. What sticks out to me most is the delicious food, warm welcome, authenticity and family atmosphere...
