I fully appreciate the iconic status of this restaurant, largely due to its association with the Durrells. Its location in the picturesque bay of Kalami, with its sweeping views and undeniable charm, is certainly part of the appeal. Unfortunately, the positives end there.
Beyond the undeniably stunning setting, the restaurant is, quite frankly, a disaster. The service is indifferent at best, the waiting times are absurd, and the food is utterly forgettable.
It took 45 minutes for our starter to arrive. A further hour passed before our main courses made an appearance. Not once during that time were we offered bread, olives, or even an apology for the extraordinary delay. As we waited, we observed the same pace being endured by neighbouring tables, so ours was by no means an isolated experience.
The menu is remarkably uninspiring. Beyond a few variations of filleted fish, there’s little to tempt or excite.
We’ve been coming to Corfu for four consecutive summers, each time staying for two months. We’ve dined in everything from rustic mountain tavernas to elegant seaside establishments, from Agios Stefanos to Agni Bay, Old Perithia to Corfu Town, and across the island’s southern coast. Nowhere—absolutely nowhere—have we encountered service this slow, staff this disengaged, or food this disappointing. Never before have we waited nearly two hours with almost nothing on the table.
After we finally complained asking where is our food, the waiter trying to make it up, brought us a complimentary dessert—presumably as some form of peace offering. But by then, the damage was done. For the first time in our lives, we seriously considered walking out of a restaurant before the main course arrived. In hindsight, we probably...
Read moreRecommend to avoid - I was never so disrespected and mistreated by someone at a restaurant (or ever) as I have been by The White House’s manager. A grey hair, mid 40s, man that has anger issues and needs to stay away from customers if one knows how to run a business. My wife and I booked a table for dinner to celebrate our anniversary 3 weeks in advance. The host sat us on a table next to the kitchen entrance, which we didn’t like and asked to move elsewhere. Whilst waiting for another table, the manager asked what was wrong with the table and that to him it was a perfect table. After explaining, the man aggressively said that if we weren’t happy we could leave the restaurant and that to him it didn’t matter if we stayed or not - emphasising the unacceptable rude tone with a paying customer (he shouldn’t speak to anyone like this let alone clients). As our hotel was over 50min drive, we had to swallow the rudeness and stay, with the man ironically smiling at us for staying. At some point he passed by us and we told him he was being very rude - he simply replied with “Thanks, I know I’m rude, why don’t you leave?”. No client (nor anyone) should be subject to this type of unacceptable behaviour just because the venue is touristic - this type of situations shows how unprepared and unprofessional this restaurant hire their staff, as the manager should be the example to follow. The experience was so ruined that food nor others from staff could save it. It was a truly existencial exercise to have to pay to somewhere which allows its manager to run the place as he...
