Asterias is a beach-front, family-owned restaurant, specialized mostly in seafood (although their moussaka was the best I've ever had).
The restaurant colours and design are nicely picked, with a very Greek type of teal accents and a beautiful sea view.
Kostas and his wife Maria (the owners) make it a point of knowing their customers by name, and the service is quick and attentive. Staff wore masks and gloves.
The fact that it is family-owned transpires through in the cooking and staff attitude. Asterias is very much like a backyard feast with Greek friends.
We had the grilled seabass (fresh catch from the morning), a seafood risotto and a green salad. The seabass was tender and exceptionally fresh, with plenty of nice charred bits. Originally, it would have come with french fries included in the price, but we opted out, for dietary reasons.
The risotto was al dente and with copious amounts of squid, mussels and head-on, de-shelled shrimp. I especially liked the sweetness of the shrimp and the overall taste profile of the risotto. Excellent.
The whole meal (which we could not finish entirely, my wife and I) cost EUR 28.5 (drinks...
Read moreGood evening,
First of all, I want to emphasize that my review is objective and not intended to offend anyone. Let’s start with the positive aspects of Restaurant Asterias: • The food was fresh and tasty, depending on what you order. • The overall atmosphere was inviting and enjoyable. • The staff, especially the waiters, were friendly and attentive. • The food was served on time. • The menu was available in multiple languages, which is very convenient for international guests.
Now to the negative aspects: • We ordered a large bottle of soda but received a small one, yet we were charged for the large bottle. • A significant portion of the dishes consisted of fries, which made the meals feel a bit monotonous. • Compared to the neighboring restaurants, there was nothing particularly special about this one. • Nearly everyone was smoking, which made the environment uncomfortable for non-smokers. • Overall, it’s an average restaurant without any standout qualities. • I would recommend trying the neighboring restaurant (“Molos”) first. However, if it’s too crowded, this is a decent alternative.
All in all, a solid restaurant, but nothing...
Read moreI found the terrace of the ASTERIAS restaurant in Limenaria Thassos by pure chance: I was looking for a place in the shade, where I could have lunch with my son after a motorcycle trip on the island. We were greeted by a tall and jovial guy who introduced himself as Kostas. He handed us the menus and reassured us that EVERYTHING that was on the menu was served and that everything was fresh. A lot of waiters and piccolos swarmed around all the time, serving the customers who had occupied all my tables. I ordered seafood (stuffed squid), and for dessert baklava and Greek coffee... Kostas served us an aperitif from the house (while waiting for the food) and told us that the hotel and the restaurant are a "family business", and the whole team is made up of his relatives. In winter, in the off-season, the whole family works on the farm... Honestly, we left satisfied with the friendly reception and service, as well as the taste of the dishes. So I recommend the ASTERIAS Restaurant...
