Afrala: A Taste of Greece That's A Cut Above The Rest
From the moment we stepped into Afrala Restaurant in the beautiful island of Zakynthos, we knew we were in for a delightful culinary journey. Coming from Norway, a country known for its seafood, particularly salmon, we are no strangers to high-quality dining. But Afrala took us by surprise, presenting a unique and savory blend of traditional Greek cuisine that left us craving for more.
As we walked, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming family of Afrala, even though they were supposed to close in under 30 minutes, who made us feel relaxed and at home - a feeling that lasted throughout our entire visit. We quickly learned that the name Afrala, meaning the flower of the sea, is the local sea salt, traditionally and carefully collected by hand by the people of the island. This attention to detail and love for quality ingredients was evident in every dish we savored.
We started our meal with an assortment of appetizers: fresh sourdough bread drizzled with their homemade olive oil, tzatziki dip, a delightful smoked aubergine dip, and a wonderfully spicy cheese dip known as Ty-ro-kaf-te-ri. The olive oil, pressed from local olives, was some of the best we've ever tasted, perfectly complementing the flavors of the dips and the sourdough bread.
For the main course, I indulged in the Rib Eye Steak - a succulent Uruguayan Black Angus cut served with potato rocks and a light hollandaise foam that added an extra layer of flavor. My wife chose the salmon, a dish we Norwegians are very critical of, given our national affinity for this fish. Yet, we can honestly say that we have never tasted better salmon before. She also tried the Grilled Chicken Fillet on our second visit, which was served with a coconut cream and a refreshing quinoa salad, a surprising and delightful combination that left a lasting impression.
What sets Afrala apart is their love for what they do, which clearly shines through in their dishes. It is the perfect blend of home-cooked meals, tradition, and a dash of innovation that makes every bite an experience to remember.
In conclusion, Afrala is not just a restaurant - it's a destination. A place where you can enjoy the best of Greek cuisine served with love and care. We look forward to returning on our next trip to Zakynthos and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

Read moreSincerely, this restaurant is a pretty nice place with good bread. Although when it comes to food we are gonna locate some stuff that was totally not worth my money. I ordered a mix grill for one person for the fabulous price of almost 10€ and what I got was a big big plate with HALF pita bread, lots of greens, ONE skewer, a far too little sausage, a pint of chicken fillet and worse out of all ONE lamb chop which was 100% frozen meat from New Zealand (I have eaten so much lamb being from Central Greece that it's almost impossible to not distinguish it)... Although it's a good try I would not recommend it for someone wanting to taste real Greek cuisine and not some great modern design with average food. I would never try to be a "Karen" but sorry 10€ for that plate was a poor...
