During my unforgettable holiday in Zakynthos, Greece, I had the pleasure of dining at The Old Wind Mill, a charming family-run restaurant. Panos and his wife have recently returned to assist in running this establishment, and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight. Zakynthos is renowned for its stunning beaches and delectable cuisine, but The Old Wind Mill surpassed all expectations.
Now, I'm no food connoisseur, but I know exceptional food when I taste it, and the dishes served at The Old Wind Mill were simply out of this world. We were so captivated by the incredible flavors that we found ourselves returning to the restaurant day after day. Every item on the menu was an experience in itself, prepared with utmost skill and showcasing the finest regional cuisine.
Panos and his family radiated warmth and genuine care, providing impeccable service that mirrored the quality of the food. It's rare to come across such hidden gems in the world, and I almost hesitated to share this review, wanting to keep the secret all to myself. However, I cannot stress enough how essential it is to visit this place if you find yourself on the island. The Old Wind Mill is an experience that will leave a lasting impression.
Let me highlight a few standout dishes from their remarkable menu. The ceviches were a true sensation, bursting with freshness and flavor. The prawn saganaki was another heavenly creation that delighted the palate. They even incorporate wild sage, which is grown on the nearby mountain, into a cream papadelle dish, resulting in a symphony of taste. And the beef stew? Mind-blowing doesn't even begin to describe it. In all honesty, I could go on and list nearly every item on the menu, but I'll leave it for you to discover the wonders yourself.
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Panos for making my holiday an extraordinary one. If you're contemplating where to indulge in an authentic Greek meal, look no further. Make your way to The Old Wind Mill without a second thought. As an added bonus, the restaurant boasts a breathtaking 180-degree view of the entire island, completing the perfect...

We absolutely loved our experience at The Old Windmill – so much so that we ate here three nights during our holiday! Every meal was outstanding. The steak was honestly the best I’ve ever eaten…after trying mine the first night, my parents had to come back so they could enjoy it too! My little girl loved the tzatziki, pita and steak. We also had the grilled peach & goat’s cheese salad, pork chop, grilled vegetables with halloumi, lamb chops, Greek salad, and the most delicious grilled king prawns. Everything was cooked to perfection.
The cocktails and drink selection were fantastic with so many options to choose from and each one perfectly made, they paired beautifully with the food and the setting.
The views from the restaurant are spectacular. We were lucky to sit by the window on two evenings and over by the climbing frame another night. The atmosphere was wonderful no matter where we sat.
This is a truly family-run restaurant at its core, with exceptional food and warm, welcoming service. A special mention goes to Panos, his wife and brilliant team, who made every evening feel memorable.
It’s also a great spot for families. There’s a small play area outside and an indoor area with books and toys, which made it even easier to relax and enjoy the evening.
Highly recommend booking in advance as it does get busy (understandably so!). This restaurant is a real gem and we cannot wait to come...
Read moreThe Old Windmill has a million-dollar view but we must have been super unlucky to be met with not so good food. I liked their Greek salad a lot. I can’t exactly pinpoint what made it so special, could be their choice of olives(which lent a super smooth flavor) or some sort of seasoning that were not visible to the eye. You have to try it to see it for yourself. I wish the main dishes were as great though. The (local) chicken was obviously overcooked so the meat was completely dry and chewy. The beef was tender but also a couple minutes away from getting dried out. I decided to let the staff know about the chicken and was told that this was chicken from his own farm and they are different from store bought ones. They usually tend to be leaner. And I know precisely what he meant because my gram and pop also had livestocks when I was little. All the meat and produces I ate growing up was 100% homegrown. So, I was sure that it was the cooking the kind of took the juice off the meat and not the nature of the meat itself. My partner, who is a true chicken lover, even said it’s likely that it was cooked, reheated and ended up leathery. But like I said, it might just be our luck. Maybe...
