I immediately felt welcomed as the exterior slightly reminded me of a great cuban bar I went to in Rhodes, Greece, but this is about zakanthi and like others have said before, there is friendly staff and a nice atmosphere and there is surprisingly and uniquely live music from a saxophone player, however I couldnt find anything that I really wanted to try that was within my price range. I wanted a sirloin steak, but the one I saw was 16.20 if I remember correctly. The restaurant isn't exactly quite expensive as in €25 meals, but I was just going out for something to eat with two other families, not including mine and I didnt want to boost our bill massively, so I just settled on "fish and chips", but when it arrived, it was fish FINGERS not fish as in a fish fillet and chips, which fish and chips is. It was 3 fish fingers, a moderately small portion of chips and a cup on ketchup. I wasnt expecting too much as it was 4.20 (hehe) , but I hoped that the fish and chips would be fish and chips. I also ordered a non alcoholic cocktail which I wasn't too keen on, however I didnt know exactly was flavour it was because it was just named "Non-Alcoholic Cocktail" and I could've just asked what was in it. Anyways, later two of my friends ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail and got a way better one than mine, with fruit on a skewer on top of the glass, with a fancy paper straw (that part is crucial) (that part was sarcasm btw) and crushed ice, whereas mine was just some juice, however my dad said something about it being a childrens cocktail, but take this with a grain of salt as earlier when he asked me what I wanted to drink and wondered if it was fanta orange, I said no and then said non-alcoholic cocktail, so he said coca cola to the waiter. I later asked if I could get what my friends got and I got the same as them and the drink was good. I then got mixed ice cream, which it didn't mention, but it was one scoop of vanilla, one scoop of strawberry and one scoop of banana with chocolate syrup, I did hope that there would've been chocolate ice-cream rather than banana, however one again its my bad as I could've asked. It was fine overall. My parents and everyone else said that their food and drinks were fine, so thats boosted the...
Read moreGreat food but with consequences- Deeply Saddened to leave such a review
On Saturday we visited the restaurant Zakanthi at Kalamaki. The environment was amazing. The seating area was at the back garden of the restaurant being surrounded by trees, flowers and fantastic smells. The waiters were really helpful and polite and they ensured we were wanted for nothing. The live music played by the talented saxophonist made it seem that this would be the best dinner we have ever had in Zante-however, as it will be explained below, this didn’t seem to be the case.
When it comes to the food, prima facie it was absolutely AMAZING. For starters, we ordered the Zakanthi Salad with salmon avocado leaves and dried tomatoes that was amazing and Baked Feta Parcels with honey and sesame. We were also offered mushrooms with melted cheese and chips with garlic sauce that were on the house. As mains, I ordered the Stable Steak while the three people accompanying me ordered the Chicken Fillet Zakanthi with rice and a pork steak that I don’t remember the name respectively. In the end we were offered Watermelon and Melon which was on the house.
As I told you before, this would easily be the best meal I have ever had in Zante if the unexpected event hadn’t occurred.
The three of us that tried the mushrooms with the melted cheese-the fourth person didn’t try them-got diarrhoea one (1) hour later. I would have never thought that I would get diarrhoea from such a well-kept and good restaurant. I am sure that this event does not in anyway depict the hygiene standards of the restaurant and even if I am writing this review now, I can reassure you that it is worth visiting Zakanthi restaurant and what we experienced was just an isolated incident. Trust me I was really hesitant to write this review because I really liked their food and atmosphere but since I respect my readers and feel the responsibility to review restaurants and hotels honestly, I had to do it.
To conclude, I am really sad to write such a review and to be honest, if this event hadn’t occurred, I would give 5...
Read moreThis restaurant is the epitome of "all front". We, like seemingly many others were lured in by what seemed to be the idyllic greek backdrop with a beautiful garden setting.. we made a reservation 2 days prior to our visit with (whom i guess is) the owner who was very welcoming and interested in our custom and assured us of a great experience.. two days later.. we arrived on time and was greeted by the owner.. however our greeting was cut short as a young cpl who had just walked in from the street without reservation became to new interest and they was greeted gleefully and sent to their table.. served before us.. attended before us.. although very rude we let it sail as we was there for a promised night... here is where it went downhill...
Starters: if you like muscles.. bring your own razor as 90% of the muscles still had beards... the dish also comes with no bread so you have to request the bread which regretfully is dense enough to use should you need a chock to stop a car rolling.. this brick will be added to your bill later.
Main course: seafood paella with smoke sausage... this dish is served with undercooked prawns and NO smoke sausage.. after a few minutes of shovelling through undercooked rice and discovering lack of menu stated ingredients i called a server and explained the issues.. he said "ok" and wandered off.. i sat in front of now a tepid paella waiting for a re-fire.. nope i just recieved a plate of rough chopped sausage to mix in to my cold paella..
Service: called our server and explained the situation to be met with a "shoulder shrug" sorry... expected the owner to arrive to discuss issues but we were instead left waiting for 15 minutes and then told to go to the front to pay up..
Finale: the arrogant owner refused to even look at me when he gave is the bill total.. i said quite clearly "so we are not going to talk about this".. i got nothing. Ignorance and arrogance combined..again refused to acknowledge us.
Overall: avoid the lure at all cost.. the attitude is quite clear here.. to them you are...
