First time posting a negative comment in my 34 year life. Fk this place, it's not only a ripoff but they charge $Q5 (after I gave them a $Q30 tip on a $Q175 dish, yes I prepaid the dish) for a tiny cup of hot sauce, only give you napkins one at a time, inside of a napkin holder ontop of that. Then the Lady Mrs. Poopoo had her children (2) cooking the food super slow (learning) and had no idea what they were doing to such an extent that the Lady pushed one of them out of the way, turned up the heat and finished cooking the meal. Beside that there we're only two people there and they could only cook one dish at the time, took 25 mins for a simple dish, grilled vegs and a sheep-cut (meat) on a frying pan. Then ontop of that they gave the other dude napkins and salt and didnt give it to me, I know its petty but at the end all combined it made me sick. Finally the one kid would put a placemat in front of you and would take forever to put it down, all nervous and uneasy about putting the placemat down, yes it sounds unreal. In the end to pay the same price for a meal in Manhattan, there were 5 food spots next door and down the place charging fair prices ($Q30) for a steak dish. Don't fall into this tourist trap like I did. Food was good although all the rest. Yes I know in the end it was my fault for breaking the number one rule: don't walk into an...
Read moreMy partner and I spent a few weeks in Guatemala and really wanted to try a different experience with Mayan fusion.
We arrived at around 1:45pm and we were the only guests at the restaurant. We ordered the pork tamale, the ribs, and the steak. Despite being the only people at the restaurant, it took a long time for our tamale to come out. It came out steaming when it arrived at our table but the center was still cold. However, we were hungry and still devoured it and I will admit that it was one of the best tamales I’ve ever had. Even though it was cold it was still very flavorful.
The ribs were nicely cooked and the sauce was different but in an enjoyable way, not the expected American bbq sauce that most people would expect. It almost had a sweet chocolate aftertaste. The fries it came with… were just fries. Plain, with no seasoning or anything.
For the steak, I tried to communicate in my broken Spanish that I didn’t want it pink but I also didn’t want it dry. Maybe she didn’t understand because it came out very rare. I had to ask for it to go back on the fire. The sides were extremely basic, just some veggies that were thrown on the grill for a bit.
My biggest upset was the price. For something so basic, the price was way overpriced....
Read moreI came for my last lunch before leaving the city because I wanted to both support a small business, and have some authentic Mayan cooking. I unfortunately hadn’t seen beforehand that it was cash only, and only had 70Q left. I explained my situation to the service, offering to pay in card, US cash, or even to send them money through PayPal. There was no willingness to go the extra mile for customer service, so I had to just get a small starter and a water in order to afford my lunch. The ambiance of the space was clean, but painfully boring. No Mayan art or decor anywhere to be seen, no Guatemalan music to provide some sort of vibe. It was just a room with tables and chairs. After waiting a while, my tamal arrived. It definitely was fresh and piping hot, but I found it to be supremely tasteless. In the end, I was disappointed that my last lunch in Guatemala City was a dissatisfying starter dish, being eaten in a soulless and boring dining room, being served by staff that were nice, but couldn’t find a friendly solution to allow me to pay for a fuller meal. Cooking is subjective, but they may want to at least take a course on better...
