Echo at Lake Balaton is truly a gem for anyone wanting to experience authentic Hungarian cuisine at its finest. Dinner was nothing short of spectacular—the flavors were rich, beautifully presented, and deeply traditional, while still feeling elevated. Every dish we tried reflected care and culinary pride.
What made the evening even more memorable was Maté’s exceptional service. He went above and beyond to ensure we selected the perfect wine for our tastes, even offering tastings until we found the right pairing. His attention, knowledge, and warmth made us feel like VIP guests (and we are from Las Vegas)
The atmosphere gets 4 stars—not because it isn’t beautiful (it is), but because as the sun went down, things got tricky (we moved inside). Unfortunately, mosquitoes became a major issue. I spent the last 45 minutes trying to enjoy cocktails with my husband while swatting and killing at least 15 mosquitoes (I even filmed it, as I am highly allergic to their saliva and get welts). I was bitten several times despite purchasing some of their lavender products, which they said would help repel mosquitoes—it didn’t.
Eventually, the staff had to close the outside doors as multiple guests complained and were moved inside. It was clear this isn’t an isolated problem. Honestly, it feels like something that could easily be solved if ownership invested in mosquito traps (no harsh repellents necessary—just traps placed strategically around the restaurant). It would make a huge difference for guest comfort.
That being said, I completely recommend Echo for its phenomenal food and service—it’s worth every bite. But for this to truly be the world-class dining experience it has the potential to be, I hope they take this simple step to tackle the...
Read moreMy experience with the restaurant was ridiculously underwhelming. We booked in advance on a busy weekend. After our arrival, we had to wait a long time for the drinks, they forgot about us countless times during our stay. The attitude of the staff was also highly questionable, the lady was not able to provide adequate information. We got the dishes, some of which were delicious, but the duck was inedible. The meat was hard, you couldn't cut it with cutlery, not to mention that there was a high layer of uncooked fat on top. Indicating this, I sent the food back, and the waiter questioned what I said in a disgusting style. He took the food away, but I didn't get so much as an apology. No one cared that I went hungry. I asked if they had indicated the quality of the food, and I received the answer that although they did not apologize, they would take it off the bill, but then the waiter started to yell at me that he thought it was well cooked. I think that as a paying guest, no hospitality unit can afford to have its staff yell at the consuming guest. It was a humiliating situation. I stayed hungry. The overpricing in such a neighborhood is understandable if the food had been good, however, I can say that this experience was the worst I have experienced so far. It's frustrating, I don't recommend it to anyone, the view is not worth the...
Read moreA couple of weeks ago we went on a one day trip to Tihany. We were told that there was a good restaurant nearby and decided to check it out. The food was great, the ambiance even better and, overall, we were very satisfied. After lunch we wanted to leave a tip, but first checked the receipt to see if the tip was already included. What we found was that they charged us extra drinks we didn’t order. We complained to the waiter who immediately appologized and gave us (folded in his hand) the exact amount as the bill of the charged drinks in paper money. We left and 10 minutes later when we wanted to pay with that same paperbill the lady in the shop said it was the old forint (hungarian money) which is not valid anymore and would not take it from us. All in all, when we realized they scammed us, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouth after such a great meal.. Be careful, check the bill and the money...
