Lajos Király Étterem — Restaurant in Budapest

Saturday dinner. We came here with my girfriend about 9 PM, but no problem, kitchen is open. From menu I choosed Carpathian pork rib (4,5/5; it is simmilar to moravian „Ondráš schnitzel“ – pork in potato dough. 0,5 down, because I choose as side dish croquettes and in this combination it was in the end - as full meal is fried - litte bit hard to it. Some vegetable as side dish or salad after the recommendation of the waiter will be better way. But it is my problem, food in general was delicious.), my gf chicken steak with pepper sauce and this was totally 5/5 – as she said „gigantic portion of fantastic food“. Dessert was good too (4,5/5). Moreover ambience was very nice and staff too… It is not „modern quisine“, but it is honest homemade kitchen. If you are very hungry (because portions are huge as for the Hulk…) and you like this style of food, this is your choice! We are looking forward...

I visited this restaurant as a tourist, hoping to enjoy the local cuisine, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing due to the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff.

From the moment I arrived, the waiter seemed annoyed by our presence. There was no greeting, no smile — just cold, dismissive attitude. When we asked simple questions about the menu (since we don’t speak the local language), the waiter responded with impatience and visible frustration. It made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable.

As foreigners, we always try to be respectful and understanding in a different culture, but basic courtesy is a universal standard in hospitality. Sadly, it felt like the staff did not want to deal with tourists at all.

The food was decent, but the service completely ruined the experience. I would not recommend this place to other...

Expensive restaurant in the outskirt of Budapest (14th district), area is not the best, the restaurant is next to a busy road. Waiters were kind, and quick, maybe even too quick (taking orders 2 minutes after giving us the menu). I asked the waitress with which side my main course (chicken) is coming? She said I can choose any side...she forgot to tell she will charge me for that 700 Ft. At the end I ended it up paying 4000Ft for a small piece of chicken and a bit of rice and unsalty potato. Portion was small, price was huge. You can have much better meal, bigger portion for the same price in the heart of Budapest looking to the Danube river or St Stephen's Basilica.
