At last, culinary and cocktail heaven arrived in Eger, when Pont opened its doors a few weeks ago. Since then, my family and I have visited multiple times. The cocktails, the food and the service have been consistently outstanding.
Yes! They have cocktails! World class ones at that! We chatted with the staff and learned that similarly to the food, they source the ingredients for their drinks thoughtfully and with special care for quality. My favorites right now are the Clover Club and the Strawberry GnT, but their mixologist knows their craft so I am looking forward to trying the new ones. My husband is thrilled with Peroni and Cherry Beer that is on tap!
This is Eger's only small plate restaurant, a concept that we love because we can enjoy the variety without having to commit to a large portion for a main course. We typically order 6-8 dishes and leave satisfied. Our favorites so far include the steak, the salads, the soups, the mushrooms... okay THE STEAK! is by far our favorite. Oh and the TROUT! is the best I've ever had actually!
Be aware that they change their menu every month or so, which is fantastic for those of us who love to try different dishes as we return for the relaxing atmosphere. Their design exudes tranquility. We love sitting on the patio in the evening sun sipping the BEST COCKTAILS the city has to offer. I prefer to sit outside even if it's a bit colder, they offer brand new clean (!) blankets!
Speaking of clean, the whole restaurant is sparkling clean (okay I didn't see the kitchen, but judging from the restroom and all the furniture and fixtures, they really care about keeping things tidy). I even saw one of their staff going to pick up a piece of trash from the street that a tourist left behind.
When we went with our friends and our kids they were super patient and so kind to the kids and even made them "kid cocktails" aka non alcoholic cocktail and lemonade (heads up, their lemonade is from real ingredients not store syrup).
Considering how "young" this restaurant is, during our several visits, its operations have always been smooth and seamless even when they were running at full capacity. They are bringing much needed diversity to the Eger dining scene and taking it to...
Read moreComing home to your birthplace always feels special, especially when there's a new rising star in the heart of the city. I'm talking about this restaurant—it’s absolutely brilliant! The staff is very friendly and helped me navigate their extensive selection of food. Although the restaurant isn't large, there's a lovely terrace that will be perfect for hungry diners as the weather improves.
I tried the smoked beef tongue and the celery steak, along with the perfect medium-rare steak. An honorable mention goes to the fried pork cutlet, which had a wonderfully tangy flavor and in my opinion is better than in Vienna or better than an original Japanese tonkatsu.
There was also a secret menu item: confit lamb with fried rice and cilantro salad. All I can say is it was absolutely phenomenal! In my opinion, this restaurant is on the same level, if not better than, Macok Bisztró....
Read moreWe went at lunchtime during the off season, so it was quiet but it's a lovely, bright but intimate space. The waitress was very friendly and helpful, and spoke excellent English (although my partner is Hungarian so not a problem for us if not). The food was nothing short of excellent, not just the best food I've had in Hungary but anywhere. Even simple dishes like the chicken broth were packed with flavour. It's small plates, so I had the beef which melted in the mouth, wild boar which was delicious and a cassoulet with boar bacon which was good but battling fierce competition. It's a wine region and the white I drank was local and perfect and the raspberry Palinka, while pricy by local standards, is the best palinka I've had- and I...
