Lillafured is a magical place, especially when one considers that it's not just a destination for visitors from afar, but for locals as well. It is fresh and unspoiled, on the edge of the Bukk National Forest which is a beautiful example of European deciduous forests. Hotel Tokert itself has two main lodging buildings, an inside restaurant and a wonderful outside dining patio with a view of the neighboring lake. The rooms we occupied were in the newer building, upstairs on the second floor and were clean and comfortable. Wifi was available but we could only connect intermittently. Beds were European style - double but with separate comforters and pillows. Air conditioning was available, but windows were open-able so the fresh forest air could cool the room. A refrigerator with cool drinks (mini-bar style) was also provided. The bathroom was comfortable and clean. The Hotel is on the main and only road through the area, so there was some loud traffic (buses, motorcycles), but this settled down by the evening. Parking is tight but available on site. Another plus is that the hotel is only a short walk from the local train that runs in the summer time from Miskolc up into the mountains, thus providing an additional way to access it. The restaurant food was delicious (had the grilled trout) and the provided breakfast was also excellent. All in all, very much...
Read moreI only stopped with my family at the restaurant - my parents, my daughter and me. We came to this place a few years back and I had a bad experience back then but my father insisted that this is a good place.
The place was about half full when we went today, but the waiters ignored us for a few minutes before we asked one of them. Without stopping he told us to go find a table. He wasn't outright rude or busy but he couldn't have possibly cared less.
It took some time before the waitress came with menus - she was nice and helpful. After ordering, it took a while to get the first dishes (soup from the daily menu) and it took even longer for the rest to arrive, as if the kitchen is understaffed.
The food was mediocre, not even taking the excessive pricing into consideration. Personally I think the menu selection is awful (all 'glitzy', 'fancy' dishes) but that might be just me.
The lake, the view and the surroundings are beautiful but this place is a true tourist trap. Lillafüred is a fantastic place to visit but I'd advise avoiding...
Read moreWe are from Australia and came to Hungary to visit family. We stayed at Hotel Tokert for two nights and it was delightful. The hotel has been lovingly restored and is full of character and elegance. Our room was beautifully styled, spacious and very comfortable with everything we could need for our stay. We ate in the restaurant several times and the service was exceptional. The food was incredible and the wild boar lasagne is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Breakfast was very generous with a selection of traditional Hungarian dishes as well as western options. Our hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we would have loved to stay for longer. They were also very helpful with suggestions of things to do and see in the area. The hotel and restaurant is located in a beautiful setting opposite the lake - it was like living in a fairytale. There are walking trails nearby and lots of interesting local attractions. We absolutely loved our time in Lillafured and would highly recommend...
