This is the place mostly for tourists, it’s one of their first destinations. As far as I know. 😊 Very popular for lunch and dinner with good prices. Friendly service with creative dining décor combined with some rustic furniture, historical books and photography rounds this place a must go. About the food.. well.. it is served promptly, it is fresh and delicious. I ate there dozens of times and I can recommend you couple of dishes: first is the chicken salad – fresh with lots of salad and meat and altough they put crunched Doritios chips (dunno why) it’s still very tasty (you can ask without it of course); second – salmon salad – WOW, PLENTY of salmon; third – chickenburger with fries - tasty with good sauce; fourth and the last – Plokfiskar, a fish stew.. try that and you will not regret it. Regarding fish n chips dish, the portion is big enough and it is very good but breading is a bit thick and tooo greasy, too much for me. If you would like to experiment a bit try fermented shark. You will get 6 small cubes with small shot of vodka.. from my own experience it’s not that bad; one time I took it without vodka while on second time with vodka it was a bit distasteful. Overall, I recommend this place. The only reason why I gave 4* is just because a lot of dishes are too greasy and I’m not sure but it looks like they are using same oil for most of stuff. On one picture you can see salmon salad and on another it’s fermented shark....
Read moreReasonably priced (for Iceland) and adequate fish & chips special plate (2,200 Kroner per). Just what the doctor ordered after a day of hiking in the rain with my spouse. Those complaining about the high sided bowl should have done what I did. Take the large piece of cod out of the bowl. Remove the bowl of chips from the plate and set the bowl to the side. Place fish on the underlying plate. Eat normally. Easy peasy. No ketchup on table but you can ask. Salt shaker was empty, asked waiter to refill. He disappeared with it, never to be seen again. Stole a halfway full salt shaker from a nearby unoccupied table. Special plate note: ask for an extra piece of fish on the special plate, and split with your significant other to save money, there is a nominal extra charge, far less than buying a second fish & chips special plate. A very economical meal for Iceland! Note that if you are looking to park a rental car, the lot across the street is one hour lot, permit required, but only between 1000 and 1600, other hours it is free parking. Get the parking pernit, if needed, at local banks and gas stations like N1,...
Read more2.5 stars...I give 3 because staff appears to be ok. However, nice relaxed place and certainly the fish is of good quality, but: If one part of the dish is sold out e.g. you order "squid and bacalao" and they had run out of bacalao, you get only part of the dish - so far so good - but for the full price. In my case they had run out of bacalao and I got 5 medium sized rings(!) of squid for 850 isk, only! Salads that are part of the dish come without seasoning! Almost no salt on fries. In addition, "fish and chips" came without cole slaw and no dip. Significant variance in the sizes of served fish. You can get for the same price 100g but your neighbor 200g.
Again, quality of the fish is good but do not expact too much because you might be unlucky. -4.5 stars is too much for this place that claims the name restautrant and restaurant prices . You do get better quality in Europe and Iceland(!) for this amount of money. The 5 star ratings of others I explain with the variance in dishes or...
