Guesthouse AkurInn — Hotel in Akureyrarbær

Too be honest, I am a bit confused by the comments here about AkurInn. We arrived there expecting the worst but found a really good guest house for a reasonable price. Check in was at Hotel Akureyri which is about a five minutes drive from the guest house, it was quick & easy. Staff was really friendly & told us that if we needed help, we could call them any time. The guest house is situated in the town centre close to the harbour & the small football stadium. Our room at the guest house was on the first floor right next to the main entrance. It had a pretty comfortable bed, a table, two chairs, a tv & a private bathroom all of which was very clean. Yes, it was probably not the most modern or high class furniture but it was suitable. The bathroom was rather spacious with a lot of space for our stuff. Since we had private bathroom, I cannot say anything about the shared bathrooms. Yes, we heard people coming in or leaving the house & yes, we heard people using the bathroom nextdoors, but it was not noisy & did not disturb us at all. We heard a ship's horn about twice & we heard some cars, but these are things you have to cope with if you want to stay in the centre of town. There were blinds at the window which were not very dark but worked okay. Breakfast was at the hotel, it offered a wide choice of bread, jam, meat, cheese, eggs, cake, fruit, vegetables, tea, coffee, juices, cereals, yogurt, skyr & milk. There even was a waffle maker. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at AkurInn & would recommend it to anyone looking for good value for money accomodation...

Wir kannten das Gästehaus AkurInn von einer früheren Reise und auf Grund der damals gemachten Erfahrungen war es naheliegend dort wieder zu buchen. Die Buchungsbestätigung war noch im Namen der uns bekannten Besitzer Dora und Sämundur geschrieben, doch zwischenzeitlich hat das Gästehaus entweder den Besitzer gewechselt oder es wurde verpachtet. Bei unserer Ankunft war die Eingangstür nur angelehnt, wir betätigten trotzdem die Sprechanlage (die eine Telefonverbindung zu irgendjemand herstellt) und nach einem kurzen Gruß wurde der Türöffner betätigt und gleich wieder aufgelegt. Im Foyer fand sich nicht der erwartete (hier von manchen Bewertern kritisierte) „welcome letter“, sonder nur in einem Regal ein Schlüssel mit der Nummer 101. Also noch einmal zur Sprechanlage. Auf die Frage, ob 101 unser Zimmer sei, ein nicht sehr erfreutes „ich bin in 5 Minuten bei Ihnen“. Wenig später kam eine Mitarbeiterin von irgendwoher mit dem Auto, war zu uns eher kurz angebunden, fuhr im Frühstücksraum einen PC hoch, drückte uns dann unseren Zimmerschlüssel in die Hand, schaltete den PC aus und verschwand grußlos. Unser Zimmer war im letzten Stockwerk, nicht besonders groß, aber letztlich so, wie es in einem Gästehaus mit Gemeinschaftsbad zu erwarten ist. (Bei unserm letzten Aufenthalt hatten wir ein größeres und gemütlicheres Zimmer im ersten Stock gehabt). Das WLAN funktionierte im letzen Stockwerk nicht. Zimmer und Bad waren sauber, das sollte sich aber bald, ändern, denn am nächsten Tag (unser Aufenthalt dauerte zwei Nächte) wurde überhaupt nicht gereinigt, wodurch Bad und Toiletten sehr rasch in einen unzumutbaren Zustand verfielen. ||In der Buchungsbestätigung war geschrieben, dass man das (im Preis nicht inbegriffene) Frühstück vorbestellen soll. Eine diesbezügliches Mail war nicht beantwortet worden, also wieder zur Sprechanlage (im ganzen Haus war nie Personal zu sehen) um dort zu erfahren, dass es im Haus kein Frühstück gibt, nur in einem bestimmten Hotel. Da die kurz angebundene Mitarbeiterin sofort wieder auflegte, konnten wir nicht einmal mehr fragen, wo denn dieses Hotel sei. Nachdem wir herausgefunden hatten, dass es etwa 15 Gehminuten entfernt war, zogen wir es vor, in einem näher gelegen Cafe zu frühstücken.||Im Aufenthalts- und ehemaligen Frühstücksraum erinnerte eine leere Lipton’s Tea Sortimentschachtel an die Zeit, als es tagsüber für Gäste jederzeit Tee und Kaffee gab, doch mit dem letzten Teebeutel war dieser Service wohl beendet gewesen. Die leere Schachtel zu entsorgen, hatte wohl niemand für notwendig gefunden. Kaffee konnte man sich in der Küche nebenan selbst kochen, so man welchen mitgebracht hatte. Ein halbvoller Zuckerstreuer stand noch herum und Milchpulver gab es zur genüge. Doras in eigenwilligen Englisch verfassten Verhaltenshinweise auf teilweise etwas ramponierten Zetteln hingen noch in Küche und Aufenthaltsraum; einige neue, strikter formulierten Verbots- und Gebotsschilder waren dazugekommen.||Ein ausgehängtes Zertifikat eines Buchungsportals erinnerte an bessere Zeiten und bestätigte dass die Kunden dieses Portals das Gästehaus im Jahr 2013 mit 8,3 von 10 Punkten bewertet hatten. Punktestand bei unserem Aufenthalt im August 7,6; jetzt im Oktober 7,4; was wohl alles sagt, da solche Bewertungssysteme sehr träge reagieren. Ein im Aufenthaltsraum offenbar vergessenes Notizheft war von einigen Gästen zu einem Gästebuch (oder Beschwerdebuch) umfunktioniert worden: Hauptkritikpunkt war die mangelhafte Reinigung. Für unseren nächsten Aufenthalt in Akureyri werden wir uns jedenfalls eine andere...
