Kaffi Hornid — Restaurant in Iceland

EDIT: I feel really bad for having to edit this review. We went today again after two weeks, after experience from my previous review because last burger made me think about going back here for two weeks and gosh I am so sorry but the food was terrible this time. Too long waiting times for just a couple of tables. Lobster tempura overdone, fish and chips on the salter side but edible, but my burger this time was inedible. I sent it back and the new one was not much better, but I felt stupid complaining for the second time and I just wanted out and by that time my partner was already done eating so eating out together experience was ruined. Staff slow, uninterested and unattentive to details, but that is nothing new here. I am really surprised that with so many people looking for work they cannot find decent workers. I work in a service industry and Iceland is not a cheap experience so quality of what you pay for is really important to me. I will not be back here nor recommend this place for my guests to eat out. If you cannot get reliable good service, it is just not worth it, there are other restaurants in Höfn in the same price range that did not disappoint.

Old review: Really tasty burgers for a decent price. Server seemed a bit slow/unattentive, but the food quality made it overall nice experience. Drink menu could use the update, because there seems to be a big difference between what is offered and what is written. Overall, I would come back here for a lunch...

My partner and I came in about 1 hour and 10 minutes before closing. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, which is fine so we waited patiently for a table. Between waiting for the table and being seated I saw and heard the host speak rudely to a group because he thought their group was too big to be seated and dine before the restaurant closed. He made it very clear the kitchen would stop serving at a certain time.

My partner and I were seated and waited for over 20 minutes to even be acknowledged by any member of the staff. We were not offered even a water. A server kept coming to check on the table in front of us and never even glanced our way so we could not get his attention.

We decided if we had to wait 5 more minutes for any acknowledgment then we would have to leave. We were VERY hungry after a long day of adventure and travel so we simply couldn’t risk waiting until the kitchen stopped serving which the host made abundantly clear would happen to the large group.

5 minutes came and went so we got up and left. As we were leaving the host, bartender and server were standing behind the bar not really doing anything. They locked eyes with us and pointed but otherwise made no effort at communicating.

We went to the diner down the road which is MUCH better service.

I saw many comments about how good the food was… we can’t really speak to that since we were not given the ability to try...

Disappointed with the service of this restaurant. The food was excellent (that's why I give 3 stars), but unfortunately the whole impression was destroyed by the staff and their attitude to work. The first disappointment came when they didn't have coffee in this restaurant/cafe - only filtered coffee, but there was no explanation why. Another is that you have to ask for water all the time, the whole time there were only two tables in the restaurant and yet the waiter left dirty plates on our table all the time till we left. Not to mention the drunken guest who shouted at us and no one said anything to him. All of this could somehow be ignored until the payment, when we were told that the ketchup was an extra charge of 300 (no one had told us this before) so we paid it and I'm glad we took the receipt because we found out that the waiter took 600 ISK for the ketchup, we asked him to return it and he didn't seem surprised or sorry, he was quite touched.
