It was spending my last night in Assam are a 4 year long stay, So, I wanted some good authentic Assamese food to celebrate my lovely stay at this corner of my country. And yes indeed I found KHORIKA. It's an Authentic Assamese restaurant which serves fantastic assamese food. I ordered an Assamese thali(Non-vegetarian), it was absolutely worth. The decor and sitting arrangement of the restaurant is designed beautiful with wood and bamboo works, which give the visitor a continuous feel of Assam. Venture like Khorika are very limited in number and I feel Assamese food has emense potential but still it is underexplored. I want to thank for the quality food and wish them all the very best for their endeavours and also will love to taste dishes of Assam still not been in limelight.
If you want to experience taste of Assam, you will need to be a Non-vegetarian. Frankly speaking as per my understanding, assamese food is predominantly Non-vegetarian due it's geographical influence and climate condition. If you are vegetarian, the options will be limited and synonyms to food option in...
Read moreHad a horrible experience with the food and staff today. I went there to dine with my wife and 2.5 years daughter expecting the food to be hygenic but they served leftover used lemon which was already being crused by someone else. I ordered pork with bamboo shoot, fish and chicken curry. I asked them not to make it spicy so what they did was they took the pork and used some sweet gravy from other dish and again tempered with extra oild and served it to me and there was only pork fats out of all the eight pieces. When asked, they said they do not have meat. Upon serving they said that they have served chicken butter masala but when we asked them who eats chicken butter masala with rice, they replied it is not butter masala and their curry is like that and they make it sweet. Our main concern was the leftover used lemon since we went there with our kid. If they can serve leftover used lemon, they might...
Read moreKhorika (Heritage) Guwahati has build a reputation of it's own when comes to ethnic Assamese cuisine. But visit Khorika Tezpur would make you think over it. Infact, I doubt if its a franchise branch or a random restaurant with the same name. Judging it as a random restaurant got me to rate 3 stars; if it were compared vis-a-vis Khorika Guwahati, then it'll drop to 1 star. The irony is despite the name of the restaurant being Khorika, there weren't any khorika (barbeque) items during both my visits. On the positive side, the astethics are great and the people therein are very well behaved. The chicken curry is awesome.
They should seriously consider increasing the number of items served with the standard thali. At the same price, Spring Valley Bhojanalaya, located roughly few yards, serves...
