Podium pukhuri occupies a close corner in my heart since my childhood days I first saw this beautiful land locked lake in Tezpur Town long back in 1970 when I was a student of class VI My Father who was in State Police Service of Assam and was posted in the O/O the Superintendent of Police Jorhat (Special Branch) was detailed at Tezpur in respect of impending Visit of Smti Indira Gandhi the then Prime Minister of India to Assam particularly to Tezpur, the district Headquarter of Erstwhile Darrang District of Assam . My Own Mahi & Moha (Maternal Aunt and Aunt's husband )who were living in Tezpur in a rented house at Chandmarri as Our Moha Haren Baruah at that time was posted in Tezpur . So My Father took me with him from.our home at Jorhat and put me with my Aunt Manjula Barua nee Hazarika who took care of me like my Mother when I was a baby tigrew up and She got married . During his off Duty periomy Father took me to various important historic places in and around Tezpur Town Podium pukhuri as the name suggests was full of Lotus (PADUM in Assamese means Lotus flower ) at that time of 1970 and my childish heart was leaping with Joy when my Father took me by my hand and we crossed the Wooden Bridge over the lake to the tiny island in the middle oe Podium Pukhuri i,e Lotus Pond I was so so happy Later after my joining in State Police Service I was posted at Tezpur as Extra Assistant Commissioner of Tezpur in the newly created Sonitpur Distric carved out of Erstwhile Darrang District in 1983 and it wadba daily matter of viewing of the Podium Pukhuri for several years as I was posted 3 times in Tezpur in various capacities during my tenure in Assam Civil Service 2nd time I was posted as Election Officer Tezpur. Then again I was posted as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur District and sat at Tezpur As I and my latr Husband Dr Sankar Chandra Das who was in State Medical Service and was posted in Tezpur Civil Hospital 3 times as M&HO I then Senior Medical and Health Officer and then Sub Divisional Medical Officer Tezpur prior to his promotion and Posting as Superintendent of Mangaldai Civil Hospital of Darrang District both our Children grew up in Tezpur .
