We were meeting after a long gap as COVID has happened. Someplace nice with open spaces and Root Barrel provided that exactly. So we reserved a table and reached there.

Decor ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ It is located on the topmost floor of Central Mall. The best part is the outer seating area with city views. I can spend an entire day being lazy and just admiring the view it offered. The decor has been kept to minimal which is just nice.

FooD RevieW ➙ Chicken Wings with Jack Daniel ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ I had assumed that they would come infused with JD, but it was somewhat different. They brought in the wings and lit the JD which was poured over the wings. Taste-wise it was good, nice, and crispy as it should be.

Tacos ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ Now I didn’t have many expectations, to be frank, tacos being a rare find in Guwahati. But to my surprise, they did quite well and the crispness of the tacos was on point. The filling was good (the chicken is well done) but the tanginess was on the lower side which needs a spike.

Sushi ✭ ✭ ✭ Being a huge sushi fan, I found it quite blah. Lots of room for improvement. Plus I didn’t find it fresh which is the most important thing for sushi.

Cocktails ✭ ✭ ✭ 1/2 Caribbean Coco ✭ ✭ ✭ ✭ This was the better of the lot. Loved the amalgamation of the flavours, bought out a chocolaty twist.

Desi Favourite ✭ ✭ ✭ Not my favourite, was like Pani Puri water infused with vodka.

Tiramisu ✭ It’s probably the Best Italian Dessert out there in the world, but they spoiled it for me. They served us a pastry and that too was not a tiramisu flavour. I had to call up for the chef to explain what the blunder was all about. He said that they order it from somewhere else, which was such a lame excuse. Plus, they are charging a premium price for it and serving something else. To make up for it they served me another equally disappointing pastry.

SERIOUS NOTE: I have suggested either changing the name or bringing in proper tiramisu. Let’s see what action they take.

Overall the place is great for hanging out with average food.

NEXT VISIT: Here again for celebrating a friend’s birthday. As usual we went outdoorsy and enjoyed the beautiful weather along with good food.

Worst service and hospitality I have ever received. Very much disappointed to watch the manager and the ‘captain’ smoke cigarettes openly in front of their customers. Manager’s of a club should be well dressed and should carry a positive attitude which was exactly opposite in the case of Root Barrel. We ordered for a pizza which came up to be way too tangy and after complaining about it, we were told by the ‘Captain’ that this is how it is prepared and nothing can be done. We asked him to call the chef but he refused, took the whole pizza back and charged us in our bill for the same. At least the 'Captain' should have replaced it immediately instead of arguing. Even the manager was carrying a very negative attitude, he didn’t even apologised once and didn’t even try to resolve the issue. I have never ever experienced this kind of behaviour from any of the staff’s working for the food and hospitality sector. I have tried pizza’s from almost all around the world but trust me your pizza was pathetic. Your manager as well as some of the staffs needs proper training and grooming. Word of mouth marketing plays a very important role in your sector but not only me, a lot of other people I have came across are complaining about the hospitality of Root Barrel.
