During a casual discussion over a glass of mango Lassi my good friend Vineel Mullapudi mentioned how great the Lassi tasted at Chulha Chauki Da Dhaba. He did recommend this place for a good meal as well.
So when there was a plan to meet a friend I decided to catch-up over lunch at Chulha Chauki Da Dhaba.
So me & my friend Raj started off with a masala papad and off course the Lassi that came highly recommended.
Loved the Lassi, not too sweet, with a mild sourness that you would expect out of a good Lassi. Slurped every last drop off the glass before I could finish off the appetisers.
Talking about appetisers, the menu offerings are both North Indian Dhaba style as well as a bit of Indo Chinese.
Me being non-vegetarian, and Raj being vegetarian, I was happy that the restaurant offers an option to order half portions. I happily ordered half portions of a Chinese Chicken Pepper Wings & a Chicken Kalmi Kebab.
The Pepper Wings were a tad bit salty, apart from that it was delicious, crunchy on the outside & soft meat on the inside, with a strong pepper punch.
The Chicken Kalmi Kebabs were beautifully well marinated, seasoned well, but again maybe a bit extra salt.
Tried some of the vegetarian starters, which were decent as well.
We were kind of full on the Lassi & Appetisers, so requested if the restaurant can make smaller portions of some rice, gravy, a dal & a Roti. I opted for a Tandoori Roti, Mutton Rogan Josh, Dal Makhani & Chicken Biriyani.
All the slight disappointment from the extra salt in the appetisers disappeared when I tasted the first bite of Roti dipped in the rogan josh. Absolutely delicious gravy, loved it totally.
The Chicken Biriyani was another surprise, wonderfully tasty, well balanced, flavourful bowl with well cooked chicken bites.
Without an iota of space left in our tummies, we unanimously decided to skip dessert, but jumped in joy once we saw a Paan stall inside. The Maghai Sweet Paan was one of the best I had, and I noticed that it had a rose petal. That’s something I hadn’t seen anywhere else. Beautiful twist & helped to ease out our heavy meal.
The outside seating area is something I missed trying this time. It’s decked up to look like a proper Dhaba, with coir cots & comfortable seating.
Overall a great place for some yummy food, tasty appetisers (except the excess salt bit), mains were outstanding with nothing to complain, this place comes highly recommended for some great...
Read moreChulha Chouki Da Dhaba is a popular restaurant located in the heart of the city. As someone who has dined there multiple times, I can attest to the fact that the food taste is indeed exceptional, the atmosphere is great and the service is impeccable. However, the space can be a bit of an issue.
Let's start with the food. The menu at Chulha Chouki Da Dhaba is extensive, featuring a wide range of North Indian and Punjabi cuisine. From the aromatic butter chicken to the delicious dal makhani, every dish is made with the utmost care and attention to detail. The tandoori chicken is another standout dish, cooked to perfection in the traditional clay oven. The portions are generous, and the flavors are robust, making for a truly satisfying meal.
Moving on to the atmosphere, the restaurant exudes a rustic charm that transports you to a roadside dhaba. The décor is simple yet tasteful, with wooden furniture and a warm color scheme. The open kitchen adds to the experience, as you can see the chefs working their magic on the hot grills and tandoors. The ambiance is perfect for a casual night out with friends or a cozy family dinner.
The service at Chulha Chouki Da Dhaba is exceptional. The staff is courteous and attentive, always ready to accommodate any requests you may have. The wait times are minimal, and the food is served hot and fresh. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and can guide you through the ordering process if needed.
However, the only downside to this otherwise fantastic restaurant is its limited space. The seating area is quite small, and it can get cramped during peak hours. This can detract from the overall dining experience, as you may feel crowded and uncomfortable. The restaurant would benefit from expanding its seating area to accommodate...
Read moreVisited Chulha Chauki Da Dhaba recently with my friend. When I reached early, there was already a waiting queue. I took my seat and waited. Soon it was my turn, the person in charge of allocating the seat told me that since I asked for a table for two and my friend hadn’t come yet, I can’t be given a table. This continued till 3 groups who came after me got a seat yet I was denied since I was alone and my friend hadn’t arrived yet. I was starving and I asked politely to the person if I sat alone was I not going to order or eat for myself to which he just chuckled and said not like that. Does that mean if a person arrives before, they won’t order and eat? Deducting a rating just because of the staff’s behaviour.
Later we got the table only after my friend came. We ordered the CCDD special paneer which I was told would be spicy but wasn’t that spicy. It was delicious though, I quite liked the green marinade on it.
We also ordered the lassi, missi roti, naan and stuffed kulcha, dal makhni and mushroom masala. Mushroom masala and lassi were fabulous. Even the flat breads were good. The dal makhni however was like regular dal with black gram dal that wasn’t cooked fully. It didn’t have the creamy thick consistency necessary for a dal makhni.
We also ended up sharing the table with two other random strangers because it...
