Read moreNot quiet the same as the Old Bangalore Dolphins Bar and Restraunt. But then, Bangalore is now Bengaluru and nothing is the same.
I have visited thrice. Food is ok. Beer was fresh (Toit pitcher), but have not tried their cocktails. The boiled peanut masala appetizer were the highlight. Masala pappad was stale, and the 'masala' flavor lacking. The mushroom stuffed with cheese was ok. The fried rice and pork dishes were not bad, if not fantastic, certainly better than other restraunts in the vicinity.
Most of their chicken dishes had an off taste...like they had not bothered to wash their chicken adequately before cooking...the chicken drums of heaven, chicken wings, ...any dish that kept skin on it tasted off. Chicken kababs, which were skinless, did not have that awful unwashed taste. If you come from a family where food is treated right, you will certainly taste the difference.
Service was good, with wait staff there when you need them. Certainly adequate at the price point.
Atmosphere was wantingnfor one major reason...sound pollution. For some strange reason, the new owners/ entrepreneurs have decided that the awfully loud traffic noise less than 100 feet from the building adjoining the Wheeler Road Flyover, is OK. They have NOT provided any sound damper, noise pollution control and the open balconies welcome traffic pollution, both noise and to a lesser extent fumes and dust. I am NOT OK with fumes nor traffic and road noise pollution. Turning up the music is NOT the solution.
Please address the negatives, especially the noise and the taste of the chicken dishes with...
Read moreI’ve gone to Dolphins pretty often, and honestly, I’ve never had to reserve. So this time, when my friend and I landed up around 7:30 PM on a Saturday for a quick drink, I wasn’t expecting any issues. Sure, it would be crowded — but usually, it’s simple.
But despite 10–12 empty tables (and about 30 vacant chairs), all marked ‘reserved’, the manager, Lawrence, refused to let us sit anywhere .. even when we offered to move the moment the guests arrived... or just pull a couple of chairs by the bar. But he wasn’t okay with that and acted a bit too cool and nonchalant to offer us any option.
He said until 8:15 (basically for 45 minutes), he couldn’t offer the tables. We all know how Bangalore is .. no one ever arrives on time. There was zero flexibility and no warmth. Honestly, it just felt unnecessarily rigid and nonchalantly arrogant.
So we got fed up and left, and went to Watsons nearby. It was the same situation there with reserved tables — but the manager clearly knew how to bring people in and accommodate. When we requested to be seated and said we’d move when the guest arrived, he agreed and even said he’d try to find us a table. Simple. Thoughtful. Human.
Dolphins really missed the mark on hospitality last night. It’s not about the rules. It’s about how you treat...
