It started as a casual evening at Fat Owl, which we had heard good things about. But within moments, it became a nightmarish experience I would not wish on anyone.
As we settled into our seats, my friend casually rested his hand on the sofa's armrest. Suddenly, he felt something move underneath. Before we could understand it, a rat darted between the cushion and upholstery, startling him to jump back in shock. The foam inside the sofa was torn, creating an easy hideout for pests. Disgusted, we immediately called the staff for assistance.
To our disbelief, three employees stood there and smirked. One of them casually remarked, “It’s just a rat, I guess.” There was no urgency, no apology—just indifference. After repeatedly insisting, we were finally moved to another table, though the damage to our mood and appetite was already done.
Unfortunately, things did not get better at the new table. This time, it was a cat—jumping around freely and casually entering the kitchen area before slipping out near us. Alarmed, I informed the waiter, who brushed it off by saying, “The cat goes to the storage, not the kitchen,” as though that somehow made it acceptable.
It was only then that we started noticing other alarming signs: sofas with holes, poorly maintained furniture, and a general lack of cleanliness. It became clear that this wasn’t an isolated incident but the result of systemic neglect.
As I reflect on this appalling experience, I am reminded of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which explicitly requires food establishments to maintain pest-free, hygienic environments. Section 26 of the Act places full responsibility on food business operators to ensure safety and cleanliness, while Section 31 mandates strict licensing conditions. Similarly, the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011 makes it clear that all food handling and preparation areas must remain free from pests and animals, with penalties for non-compliance.
Even the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act calls for strict sanitation measures under Section 257, penalizing businesses that fail to meet these standards. Yet, establishments like Fat Owl continue to flout these laws, putting consumer health at serious risk.
And where do consumers like us stand in all this? Are we expected to tolerate such blatant disregard for our health and safety? Why is it that in India, businesses feel they can take their customers for granted? Whether it’s casual staff attitudes, unhygienic environments, or outright negligence, there’s a troubling pattern of apathy toward consumer rights.
The presence of rats and cats, combined with the dismissive behavior of the staff, is not just unhygienic but an insult to the very idea of customer respect. It’s high time we, as consumers, demand accountability and action. Until establishments like this start treating their patrons with the care and responsibility we deserve, how can we trust them with...

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and excellent service. The ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, perfect for a fun-filled night out. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the delectable food that left our taste buds dancing with joy.
We started our culinary journey with the Beetroot Tikka, and it was an absolute delight. The combination of flavors was unique, and the tikka was cooked to perfection. It was a wonderful appetizer that set the bar high for the rest of the evening.
The North Indian dishes we ordered were nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors that transported us to the streets of India. The chefs at Fat Owl Gastropub truly know their craft, and it was evident in every bite. From the aromatic curries to the succulent tandoori dishes, everything was spot-on.
Even the little ones in our group had a blast. They couldn't get enough of the garlic bread, which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The main courses catered to their tastes as well, and we were delighted to see them enjoying their meals.
Meanwhile, the ladies in our group were thrilled to discover the dance floor. They had a fantastic time grooving to the music and letting loose. The lively atmosphere and energetic vibes added an extra layer of enjoyment to our evening.
One aspect that truly impressed us was the availability of valet car parking. It made our visit hassle-free, and we greatly appreciated the convenience it provided.
The staff members at Fat Owl Gastropub were attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist us. They made sure our dining experience was top-notch from start to finish, and we couldn't have asked for better service.

Disappointed 2nd visit!! Never visiting again!! Visited on 6th oct at 930pm with my wife, Recommended my friends to come to fatowl, infact they were seated in a different bar next door, i requested them to come join me at fat owl, as we wanted to try the main course today... gave my car for valet, got up the stairs, but to my shock, the bouncer stopped me from entering... the reason being i was carrying a bottle of water from home, i was a bit unwell, so carried boiled water from home, please be aware, it was in a reusable plastic bottle, it wasnt kinley or aquafina, i bought at store for 20/-, god dammnit, i am coming there to have a good time, willing to spend around 3-4k for f & b, why will i worry or even care about a bottle of water???... We felt so insulted at the doorstep... had to call my friends back, we left the place and ended up going to brewsky... and guess what?? Nobody stopped me at brewsky from taking my water bottle... we had a wonderful time and my bill amount was 5k, Even 5 star hotels or theatres dont stop from carrying water bottles from home... Please management, change your archaich rules, its just penny wise pound foolish logic you guys are using... Its not about opening big establishment with big investment, its about being humble and show basic hospitality towards customers... which is totally lacking by the team of fatowl... We will never visit fatowl again... please be aware every 100meter there is a pub or micro brewery, if this the attitude you show to a repeating customer of 1 week... its very...
