Awesome and relatively cheap Malayali food. This is as authentic as it gets outside of Kerala. Where to start with the food, they serve most traditional Kerala dishes including a variety of set meals that consist of unlimited rice, more kuzhambu, sambhar, poriyal, a sweet dish (usually Payasam) and depending on what you order either chicken or fish curry (Not available for the vegetarian option). A lot of the times my friends and I go for the vegetarian option along with a chicken curry and some other side dishes. Our go to side dishes are the Kerala chicken curry and prawn fry (these come with head on and can be eaten entirely shell and all, which is just ridiculously good). They also serve beef though it's not on the menu and you need to ask the waiter for it specifically. The beef fry is flavor-wise really really good, but texturally can vary between perfectly cooked to a bit overcooked and chewy at times. I you want something lighter than the set meals, I recommend the Kerala style Parotta accompanied with chicken curry. I have tried the Biryani only once, it was passable as far as biryanis go but generally I do not associate Biryanis with traditional Kerala food (though they do have a...
Read moreHere is the honest truth: this is my new favorite place to eat now! And no one can change my mind. After a long, tiring and stressful day of work, we decided that it was time to treat ourselves and go out for dinner. So we headed to Malabar. Let me walk you through our experience: As soon as we got in, we were greeted by a lovely gentleman who handed us the menu with a warm smile. We sat down and we're going through the menu when another gentleman came up to us asking us if we were ready to order, mind you I don't know any Malayalam, but my fiancè is a Malayali, and we asked for meals (note: Meals are only available at lunch), so we decided to go for Beef roast, Kerala parota, squid fry and two lime juices (all of which was recommended by the gentleman taking our order) and what a meal we had! Personally, I could not stop eating, but I got full - naturally the food went to my fiancè 🥲 - he is still in love with it. We have decided to go back to Malabar every chance that we get and take his parents with us. All in all, a lovely meal, wonderful people and such a cute ambiance 💜 Simply loved it! You...
Read moreTL;DR: The best budget spot for Kerala cuisine with consistently great taste. Quick service, excellent veg and non-veg options. Must-try dishes include Appam, Parotta, Nadan Chicken Curry, and Veg Stew. Affordable prices: ₹200 for veg meals, ₹220 for non-veg.
This is hands down the best spot in the budget category for authentic Kerala cuisine. As a fan of Kerala food, I’ve been visiting this place at least once a week for the past year, and the taste has remained consistently great throughout.
Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are excellent, with freshly prepared hot meals served within 10 minutes of placing an order. While the seating can be a bit cramped, it's not something to complain about given the overall experience.
I highly recommend trying their Appam, Parotta, Nadan Chicken Curry, and Veg Stew—they’re simply fantastic. They also offer tea and snacks, which are equally good.
Overall, the prices are incredibly affordable. A filling vegetarian meal costs around ₹200 per person, and a non-vegetarian meal is about ₹220. It's definitely worth every penny for the...
