Nestled between the dusty busy roads leading from Town Hall, Avenue Road, Kalasipalya and Mysore Road (not exactly an ideal place for a restaurant). One definitely has to brave the elements to reach this place. However, for those who don't want that that arduous route, we have the Metro, whose Kalasipalya exit is quite near the restaurant.
I had visited this place more than 20 years back. I recently went back to the restaurant, to refresh my memory. I always prefer to have Mutton Biriyani, instead of Chicken Biriyani. However, by the time I went there, at around 3:30 PM, Mutton Biriyani was done for the day, and invariably, I had to order for Chicken Biriyani. The rice was full of flavour, and I enjoyed every bite. The Chicken pieces are with skin, which I don't prefer, but still, didn't dampen my spirits. The Chicken Fry was just as it tasted 20 years back, quite spicy and ideal accompaniment. I then learnt that Mutton Biriyani Rice was available, and I ordered one, just to remember what it tasted like. It was definitely more spicy and had less flavour than the Chicken Biriyani Rice. So contrary to popular perception, and my own belief, the Mutton Biryani Rice, in fact, would be a tough act to follow the Chicken Biriyani Rice at this restaurant.
They have more items on the Menu these days. Egg Dosa and Parottas are available, which, if memory serves me right, were not available, 20 years back.
If you feel that a biriyani isn't enough, and another Biriyani Rice would be too filling, you are given a choice of half white rice, which would give a sneak preview to the Vegetarian Meals. All in all, the blast from the past was quite enjoyable. And if you are wondering 20 years is a long time, my father, when I had told him about this restaurant in the early 2000s, had regaled me with a story of how they, as students in the early 70s, had sold a pile of newspapers, and had gone to Naidu hotel, to...
Read moreVisited N V Naidu Hotel on a weekday for lunch, and it turned out to be a solid pick for biryani lovers. Located in a busy area with narrow one-way roads, the place is moderately crowded but manages to give off that classic, old-school charm with its vintage seating.
What I Tried: Mutton Biryani – Easily one of the best biryani rice I’ve had in Bangalore! It was flavorful, mildly spicy, and had that satisfying homemade touch. Mutton Fry – Tasted great, though the portion size felt small for the price paid. Omelette – Nothing fancy, just the regular kind, but went well with the biryani.
What I Liked: The biryani was in dum when I arrived, so it came out fresh and hot. Great taste and quality – especially the biryani rice, which stands out from many other places. The restaurant has vintage-style seating, giving off a nostalgic vibe for food lovers.
What Could Be Better: Parking is a nightmare – being in a congested area, you’ll need to find roadside space. Mutton fry quantity could definitely be more generous for what you pay. Prices are average to slightly on the higher side, but the taste mostly justifies it.Overall
Verdict: N V Naidu Hotel is a must-try spot for mutton biryani lovers in Bangalore. Despite the parking hassle and crowded area, the flavor and authenticity of the food makes it worth a visit. If you're a foodie who doesn't mind a bit of a hunt for parking and loves classic South Indian non-veg fare, this place...
Read moreI am aware that this place is quite old and has a lot of history and fanbase in the city. But does not mean the restaurants owners cannot and should not keep the place clean, no matter how busy the place is. I have been to busier ones that are better. We went for lunch on a busy Sunday afternoon & we had to wait for 15mins to find a table for 5 people. The building is quite old and has really basic bench styled seating which I am all for it. I have no complaints about the seating arrangement. They have got 10-12 tables. I could see a lot of rice and pieces of bone spilled under pretty much all tables but they did not care to clean up at all. We took mutton biryani and mutton fry which were quite good. All the other dishes were already over by 1pm which was disappointing. "Chicken Biryani" is a joke here. They sell boiled pieces of chicken in tomato rice and call it biryani which is an abomination. We could not muster courage to eat more than one bite of it. Don't think I am going back here any time soon. I'd rather eat at Navayuga which I believe is...
